Choke recommendations

I just picked up a mossberg 835/ holosun red dot combo on sale at rural king. Thinking about setting it up for coyote hunting and was wondering what choke constriction I should be looking for since the bore on these is larger than your standard 12gauge. I currently hand load #4 TSS. Figured I should be looking around the .720 constriction range. Am I far off?

First thing I’d do is find an ortho doc and go ahead and schedule a date for shoulder surgery!
lol I actually shot it today with my 3” loads and it wasn’t too hateful. It kicks more than my Benelli, but nothing I’d call extreme. I know these guns have a reputation for being harsh though

Yeah, my TSS turkey loads are mild compared to some lead turkey loads I’ve shot. And if memory serves me correctly, I tried that particular brand/model/gauge with a 3.5” duck load or turkey load. It’s been a while since that time, but once was good enough for me.

I was sighting in my 835 turkey gun with 3½" Hevi-shot and cracked my neck, cracked my back and gave me a headache! That was the first shot. I called it good and stick with my 3" Winchester 1300 turkey gun 99% of the time. I didn't need that, I already have neck and back issues.

years ago, i knew a guy that was selling his mossberg 835 turkey gun. he gave me the gun and 5, 3 1/2 inch turkey loads to try it out. i went to the range, fired one round.

i gave him the gun and the remaining 4 rounds and told him to keep the gun and not to ever let anyone else shoot it if he wants to sell it :)

OH...see if carlsons has a dead coyote choke for it.

I bought an 835 when they came out to use on coyotes. Its heavy and stout. Old school camo. Shot a bunch of 3 1/2" mags thru it and decided 3 inch was good enough for me.
Those shotguns shoot great when dialed in. Somewhere in time I bought several chokes for it and settled on a Dead Coyote choke and Hevi Shot. Killed lots of coyotes grey fox and bobcats with it.

I have had good results with Carlson's Extended Blue Sporting Clays chokes in Mod or Imp/Mod. TSS shot patterns very tight and with over 100 pellets per shell a little wider pattern is still plenty dense enough.

The Carlson's Extended Sporting Clays Chokes are rated for all shot types.
