Chrono ?

Well as you see I picked up my first one. Its a Shooting Chrono the Beta model. Anyway. I shot some handloads through it. I had right around 4300 for my 28.8 of H4895 with 32gr Nosler's. I shoot a savage FLV12 204 with the 26in bull barrel. Does that seem a little fast??

I also shot my 28.2gr of H4895 with the 35gr Berger and that was in the 4000's.

I set it up on a chair shot from 10-12ft. I had it level. I read the directions, but was wondering how touchy these things are. As in if its not perfectly level does screw it up and how much??

Just curious on how good the one i got was and what i can expect with them.

Does your target have to be the same height as the chrono?? As in shooting at a box at 100yds that would be slightly down would that bother it? My target was roughly the same height as I tried to shoot straight across it.

The sky screens only read accurately if the flight path of the bullet is on a more or less level plain to the sky screen. also shooting at up or down angles is a risk to the sky screen or the box the electronics are housed in. 10 feet in front of the muzzel is the distance usually recomended. Be very careful if you decide to test the speed of shotgun or bow and arrow I know of one guy whos chrony died from being hit with a wad, and another who put a broad head through his.

I have the same one and like it a lot. I'm shooting a 35 grain Berger using 28.2 grains of H4895 out of a 22" CZ 527 and I get 3850fps. I'm guessing you're pretty close. 150 fps for four more inches is about right.

There are two groups of chronograph owners, those that HAVE shot their chorno's and those that WILL shoot their chrono's! I proudly belong to the first group!!

I am also in that first group.LOL I have the beta master with the portable display and it is a very good chrono.

Some advice is to get some 3/16 wood dowels for about $3 and use them inplace of the metal rods that connect your diffusers. The dowels react much better when hit by bullets. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well Unloaded I guess I better follow the rules.
"The number one rule of chronys: When it get shot you have to post pictures"

I was shooting a friend's super blackhawk 44 magnum on saturday. Another friend had offered some handloads consisting of a sierra 240 jhp behind 24.1 grains of 2400. Sounds kinda warm doesn't it? They were clocking around 1475 or so BEFORE THE INCIDENT.

My friend had shot thru the chrony onto the target. We walked up to take a look. Not a bad group all in all. I thought to myself; I should lower the chrony. Nah that would involve adjusting the legs. It will be ok.
So my friend gives me the sbh and I sit down at the bench and nestle the gun on the rest. I must admit at this point that I was anticipating the recoil and I flinched slightly thereby dropping the muzzle down suddenly as I touched that trigger.
BOOM!! down goes the chrony.

I just started laughing. What else could I do? All that engineering of those circuits and the little fellows in china or wherever it is made that put it together and I go and shoot a big hole in it. I couldn't use something small like a 223 or 22 NO I had to use a 44 Magnum.

My friend had this look frozen on his face as his mouth stayed open and jaw dropped almost toughing the bench. Oh my god.

I couldn't stop laughing. I felt stupid seeing what I just did but what the hey. It could happen to anybody right?

It doesn't look all that bad but it is bad enough. When I picked it up off the gound little pieces of plastic fell out all over the place.

I will stop jabbering on. Here are the photos:

Oops!! I haven't taken mine out of the box yet. I can't shoot it that way. I am more worried about an arrow than a bullet. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Is the f1 a good machine? I am looking into getting one as i type. Just logged of ebay and they have several of the f1 and the ones like the felas shot with his 44. out of those two what would make a better unit? thanks Lee

One thing with a Chronys is it must be opened up all the way or you will get a faster reading than it is. By a couple hunderd fps.

Nice shot 204! Don't feel bad though, it's happened lots motr than you think. A different board I was on used to have a running thread of similar pictures. Those Master-type chrono's were getting popular, they were mounting steel plates in front of the box and most of the brains are in the remote unit. When they get hit all you have to do is stand them back up. My first chrono is in the mail, its a plain-jane F1. I might be posting same kinda picture myself shortly. I'll be using it on rifles, pellet gun, paintball guns and then pistols. Seems the handguns are most likely to hit it, lol. Thanks for sharing! BTW Midway has the F1's for $70 right now.

peace.
