Circe Hawk call?

SRS 1

My uncle is looking for a hawk call, said he remembered circe making one. Are they still in production? Where can I find it?

The call you mentioned is no longer made. It was a wooden call made by Circe (Pre-Lohman/Circe).

Your best bet would be Ebay, but be prepared to pay big bucks for it. Although they are not extremely rare, they do command a decent price. Guessing I would say $60-$80 just for the call, and for one with the box and instructions, well you'll probably pay well over $120 for it.

Jay Nistetter could give you a better info on when it was made and such.

Once I got home I looked through "Predator Calls The First 50 Years" by Jay Nistetter and Al Lux, and found some further info on the Hawk Call.

It appears the wooden Hawk calls(Wooden) came with two different barrels (Strait and tapered), and two different labels (Oval Hawk Label and the regular Bobcat label with an additional label to identify it as a hawk call). There was also a green plastic model later made.

This will very the price they go for on Ebay a considerable amount. I said they weren't extremely rare, but what I should have said was they are not an every day item either.

Circe Used to make wooden hawk calls back in the 60's and switched to plastics in 1970. Jack Cain sold to Johnson and then Lohman bought out Johnson. To my kowledge, Lohman did not carry on the line of Circe Hawk and Coon calls.

Lohman still makes a wooden one that is a tapered dowel. It works good for holding quail.

Olt Hawk calls are readily available for cheap. they come in black and brown plastic.

Or you could use just about any game call with a messed up reed and buy a hawk reed kit from Modern Call Products. That way you'd have 4 reeds and a reed replacement tool.

There are other Hawk call makers and you can find them in Cabelas, NiteLite and Timothy catalogs.

You can get a Lohman hawk screamer/call from allpredatorcalls.com or lcsupply.com

I bought one recently. I have not tried it much yet but so far it has not overly impressed me. But I really have not given it a chance. It seems to be marketed to bird dog trainers & quail hunters to assist in holding birds for the dogs.

Todd.....LOL.....I heard that if you move to alaska there isn't much entertainment duing those long winters, except to fondle your woody's (calls that is) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Todd mines a sleek 60s model. LOL /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Jay is Mr. Johnson still around??? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif Someday I'll tell you a little story about the past.

My uncle wants one because it really gets those turkeys gobbling. Much better than an owl. I will search allpredator's and see what they have.
Where can I get the hawk reed you were refering too.
Thanks for all of the replies, it's greatly appreciated.

I have been using one my dad has. I use it to stop tree sguirrels so I can take still shots. Didn't know they were going for so much. Guess I will have to take better care of it.
