Cleaning AR Gas Tube

What do you AR shooters do to clean your gas tubes? I've been reading a little on AR15.com, just wondered what ya'lls secrets were? Also noticed the other day at the range some residue coming out between the gas block and barrel after an extended shooting period, is this normal, and what is the best way to keep the set screws set on the gas block and hold it snug?

I've read on ARFCOM that you don't need to clean it. And the leakage at the gas block is normal. I asked the same thing a few weeks ago and was told it is normal and it might self seal eventually.

I've never cleaned mine. The blowback from a 223 is sufficient to blow everything into the action. If I absolutely needed to to silence that clean gun freak deep inside I would use a long pipe cleaner. But I honestly don't think it's necessary.

I know competition shooters who have worn out 2-3 barrels and never cleaned gas tubes. Bolt carriers, yes, but gas tubes, never.

If it will make you sleep better, just replace it! It is not a high dollar item, probably cheaper to replace than clean.
