Cleaning Gas Tube in AR

On my semi auto pistols, rifles and shotguns I use a de-carbonizer like what is used for automobiles. Then brush with a steel brush and atomize the rest away. Gets down to bare metal quickly.

Don't use brake cleaner for this task. Use carburetor cleaner. Always insure you re-grease the parts when you are done because the cleaner will remove all the oil and grease and you will have rust. Also keep the cleaner away from plastic parts. Some will start to disappear if you don't.

You've got around 50,000 psi going down the gas tube. It is pretty much self cleaning. You will need to clean your bolt group.
 
Never cleaned a gas tube on any rifle in this dept. and have never had a hiccup, and I'm anal about cleaning. Now being that the AR15 design dumps all kind of crap back into the receiver, you definitely need to clean the bolt/bolt carrier and receiver. As far as the gas tube, what's in there ends up in the receiver anyway.
 
You can get long pipe cleaner looking things for the gas tube but I have never used them in fact I do not think I know any one who has ever used one.

Thanks guys. I've been cleaning everything but the gas tube and block, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something (not that cleaning a gas tube sounds all that exciting).
