Cleaning Rod Guides

My Stoney Point bore guide:

-is lightweight
-is relatively inexpensive
-has a port to add solvent to patches
-is easily adjusted to different actions
-seals my chamber from solvent leakage, and
-guides my cleaning rod down the center of the barrel.

That what I like about my stoney point, can't say about the others haven't tried them yet!

Let's see if I can get the photo of my many rod guides to show up. I sure couldn't get it to come up on the opening post, but I'll give it a go again here:

Well, that appeared to work. Sorry about the other photos. I don't have my account at PhotoPoint anymore and I'm not even sure that Web site exists any longer.

I'm curious, can you elaborate?

I'm just wondering what key features the other brands have that I'm missing out on.

What can make the Sinclair 2x as good, and the Lucas 4 times as good? Do they clean the gun for you too?

Sorry it took so long to get back to you on this.

The Stoney Point guide I have for my 22-250 and .223 doesn't center the rod perfectly. It has too large a hole in the end for the rod to stay centered and not touch the rifleing. It also doesn't stay tight throughout the process of cleaning a dirty bore. It tends to loosen up quite easily especially when running a brush up and down the bore 5-10 times. Mine has never completely sealed to prevent solvent from getting in the chamber. I think it is better than nothing but nothing like the Sinclair and for what I've read not even close to the Lucas product.

Of all the faults of the Stoney Point product, the Sinclair has none of them. I would suggest in trying one and if you don't like it you are only out a bit of money. But I'm afraid you will most likely end up gathering dust with you Stoney Point guides.

I have made my own out of PCV tubing before but I really like the stony point guides. If one had a small lathe you could turn out something nice from Aluminium, Brass, or a delrin rod. but since most do not have that sort of equipt. we do better buying from folks who do.
