Cleaning rods ?

Used to use all Dewey's and they're good except my 20 cal one was way too flexible. Tipton cf rods replaced them and I think they're superior.

If you really want the cream of the crop get yourself a couple of Ivy rods. Hardened polished stainless steel. I have used Dewey's for 40 years and the Ivey is the only rod that I like better.

Use it like a cleaning rod and not a ram rod, or a pool que,or a tent stake, etc.... any good rod will work.
I've got pro-shot, Dewey and Tipton.
Tipton pulled apart on the jag, first time I used it. Pizz poor glue job, I fixed it .

+1

Been using Pro-Shot for over ten years with zero issues.

When mallets and feet become involved, you know it has gone too far.

Maybe the copper and carbon buildup is just that bad....

Been using Dewey for years, but I am switching over to Tipton CF rods. Carbon fiber rods are tough to bend. They are usually straight or broken. I still use Dewey jags exclusively.

The only rods I've ever bent have been .17's. But I've bent a handful of those. At least one Proshot was a victim of me using a wrong size patch. Just not paying enough attention, stabbed a 1 1/8" patch on the jag and started it up the bore. Only got just started in the barrel with it and stuck like a [beeep]. Rod was bent so fast it really wasn't funny.

I bent another Proshot starting a brand new bronze brush up the bore too fast too. Which, is avoidable, I'll take it as my screw ups. But the Tipton CF has seen quite a bit more use than any of the stainless ones did and still nice and straight. I'm convinced it's truly a better mousetrap for .17's.

As Stu noted, I've never bent any of my Deweys. Never worn off the coating. Never had any problems with them. I like them. Although I do have a couple that have seen a lot of use that the handles don't rotate particularly smoothly or freely anymore. Which, is why I do prefer the Boretech rods I have over the Deweys. Just much better bearings in the handles, they spin much more freely even when compared to a brand new Dewey. And I like that. Though I'll admit it probably doesn't make any actual difference in getting a bore clean without damaging it.

I have sets of Dewey's, one set of tipton, and one Bore tec. I like them all.

Neil Jones Rod Guides, which Lucas are just about a copy of. Both of these have a bushing that fits on the rod, which goes in the back of the bore guide to keep the rod centered in the bore.
