Cleaning the Rifle Lug and chamber

Ok I got bore guides and I do a good job on cleaning my barrels but what are you guys using to clean the Lugs and action. I see where Dewey makes a cleaning kit but I can't keep spending a 100.00 a month getting stuff. My wife is already upset at me as it is. So what do you guys do to clean this area. Thanks Rick

Do you mean the bolt lugs or inside the reciever. In the case of the reciever, get one of those mops used for the AR (308 or .223). They have a large outer part at the rear that does a good job on the inside of the reciever, and a smaller part up front for the chamber ($2). As for the lugs on the bolt, just some Hoppes on a rag. Don't forget to lube the bolt lugs where they contact the reciever.

Ricky, I use THESE on mine.. I have a handful and if you will PM me your address, I'll toss a couple in an envelope and send them to you...They last for quite awhile and fit on the end of your chamber brush..

If you are looking for a quick/easy way to reach the inside lug recesses, I use a pair of curved (or straight) hemostats to clamp a patch or a piece of felt or rag and scrub away. I also take short sections of brass welding rod and shape them into flat scrapers or chisel shapes so I can really scrape against the surfaces without wearing on them. The long, wooden stick q-tips that you can buy from various sources work well for not only cleaning, but the stick works well for digging into small recesses and cavities. Tooth brush handles work well for scrubbing once they are ground to a variety of shapes.

Thanks guys I got some long q tips and used a 410 mop and 20 ga mop and took care of them.

OT thanks for the offer. If I buy a kit I think I might go with that one. NIce sight. Rick

I've never tried then that way, but I'd think they would...They are cheap and last a long time, even though they look dirty after the first couple of cleanings..

I bought two packages to start a few years ago and still have a pack and a half left..
