cleaning your gas tube.

From everything I have read it is pretty much a waste of time. With the amount of very high pressure gas going through the tube each time, it is pretty much self cleaning. Well, maybe not cleaning, but self clearing. I'm sure that you can get some carbon off the walls of the tube, but I don't think it will affect anything. You hear of the tactical training guys shooting tens of thousands of rounds and they don't worry about cleaning their gas tubes. Heck, they will sometimes shoot a thousand or more rounds without cleaning the gun at all. Just add more lube and go.
 
I run a 22lr conversion and was thinking about the tube after I saw how dirty the gun gets from the rimfire ammo. The instructions say to fire a few centerfire rounds to clear the tube afterwards.

I have never cleaned mine on any AR I have ever had.

I've shot 1000s of 22s out of my Ciener 22 kit and never worried about cleaning the tube. I figured a couple of 5.56 rounds through the gun would clean it right up.
 
Iv never cleaned mine either. If it tickles your fancy spray some brake cleaner down it and blow some air thru it. The pipe cleaners are for cleaning pipes, iv heard of idiots getting them stuck in a gas tube and saying oh what do i do now

If you feel it needs cleaned, spray a liitle brake clean through it and blow it out with air. After that just run some hoppes or something through the barrel to put a touch of oil in it so it wont have the dry film from the cleaner sitting on the metal. But, in all reality I have never had to clean mine, pretty much self cleaning.
