im probably going to be bow hunting on public land soon, and since i don't think hunting from the ground with a bow will be too hot, do you guys have any recommendations on a climbing stand, or tips when looking for one? thanks!

What Gary said. My limit is usually about 4 hrs. Summits are known for their comfort, Lone Wolf for being quiet. I love my Summit and it's not loud. Lone Wolf is pricey, but everyone I know who has one would use nothing else. If you're on a budget, take a look at the Summit Openshot. At 14 lbs, it's lightweight and cost effective and would be ideal for bowhunting. Good luck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

My wife bought me a Summit a few years ago and I found it quite easy to use.I reccommend buying a saftey vest to go with it.I did and its much easier to use than the harnass. If you're dressing for cold weather, climb up and haul up your jackets and such. Can be a nice workout and less cumbersome.

i also have a summit and i love it just make sure you get the sit down stand up climbing model because its a workout using all upper body strenth to climb a tree for any distance

I also have a Summit, and really like it. I have the Cobra model which I don't think they make any more. It is basically the Viper without the bar around the front. I like the open front for bowhunting, but I use it for gun hunting as well, and I have taken at least one deer a year from it every year I've had it. It is easy and light for backing in on public land.

I have heard alot about the Lone Wolf, but looking at it in Cabelas it doesn't look all that comfortable for sitting to me, and it almost twice as much as a Summit. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I have a Sumit Viper and its the cats [beeep] as far as Im concerned. I normaly connect mine to a tree the night before the hunt and then get out before sun up. By not having to carry it out the morning of the hunt, I save some energy and dont work up a sweat. Its not heavy but its still 19 lbs. or so. I have sat in mine for an 8 hour day but I prefer 4 hour stretches.

SUMMIT COBRA, all the way . I have one and absolutely love it but like yellow hammer said they dont make them anymore.I suggest looking at another summit whatever is in your budget you cant go wrong! VERY , VERY ,COMFORTABLE !!!

The broadhead backpacker (which they still make) is the folding version of the Cobra.

I guess when they came out with the folding version, they quick making the Cobra.

Hammer,

I have a buddy who bought one. He wants to trade for my Cobra straight up, even though my stand is at least five years older. Says it's noisier than the Cobra. It definitely weighs more. I'm keepin' old faithful. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Loggy Bayou Mega Transformer. Can sit all day. Has a climbing bar in front that can be removed while bowhunting. Folds flat and is fairly lightweight(18 lbs without shooting rail attatched). If you really want lightweight and portability, try a TreeSaddle from Trophyline, USA. I have been using one for the first two weeks of our bow season. I carry 18 screw in steps (gets me above 25 feet) in a small bag and wear the saddle to my stand. It is extremely comfortable and easy to shoot out of. I was afraid it would pinch my hips and make my legs go to sleep, but it does not. You can stand or sit, it really is quite amazing.

Just saw some of those screw in steps @ Academy Sports and Imports in OKC. Just how hard/easy is it to get them in, and, are they harder to get out than in?

Thanks!

check out an Ol' MAN VISION.

I've spent many, many comfortable hours in that net seat. The footrest is great for long sits...relieves alot of lower back pressure. When gun hunting, you can flip the top section over and the footrest becomes a shooting rail.

18lbs all up, folds down & packs securely with no noise or rattles. And it attaches very easily (and quietly) to the tree.

I have a Summit Bullet Backpacker folding stand. This stand is extremely comfortable and easy to use. I fall asleep quite often if the action is a little slow that day.

Definatley get one of the hunter safety system vests as they are the best! Easy to use seat belt buckles and the dual use deer drag is an awsome feature.

Good Luck!
