How much of a damper does the winter weather put on residential construction?

I've seen the very cold temps at night are the norm does the ground freeze hard and stop excavation?
Just wondering how slow things get in the winter.Thanks Mike
 
Co winters are not predictable like say, WI winters. The ground may freeze, but it doesn't last all winter. Construction slows down, but doesn't cease. We will have a high in Denver of 28 degrees and 3 days later the high will be 51. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
 
In CO we don't slow down too much in the winter. We'll lose a day here and there and then it is made up on the next weekend. To continue what NASA says, it varies from winter to winter. Some winters we will shut down for a 3-4 days at a time. Rarely any longer than that. The winter of '78 saw 54" of frost in the ground. That hurt us badly. But that was an unusual year. Normally, residentail is impacted less by weather than big commercial.
 
Some places it slow really down. In the main population areas like Denver, which are lower elevation they do not seem slow down much. Get up in the high country like in Aspen, Vail, Gunnison etc. The seasons slow the construction down alot. Hence why my family always went snowmobiling.

I'm planning on moving to the region in about 1-1 1/2 years,and wondered how slow winters are there.
I don't like being off work for long periods of time due to weather it makes it hard to save money.

Lucky for you that you are not working here today. Its cold like sub zero cold right here. What a difference a few days make.
