Any info on who is buying coyote pelts in Colorado? What is the easiest and best way to take care of the pelt for sales?

Welcome to the PM forums rscott. Where abouts in CO are ya?

New to coyote hunting I take it? Not many fur buyers around any more. You got anything against fleas? Good luck to ya.

I am near Vail. I didnt figure there would be many buyers but i just want to have somewhere to take them. Yes new to coyote hunting but not to hunting in general.

Your best bet is the Colorado trappers Acc. Auction in Feb. But the prices are going to be low. As there is a large carry oever from last year.

contact your state trapping association. i believe colorado has a decent fur auction. they should also have a list of any buyers.

coloradotrappers.com There is some information on there about next year's auction.

I was the manager of the auction until recently and you won't find many better places to market your fur. There is a very good group of buyers competing for fur there. Fur must be skinned, fleshed, and dried.

If you are looking for a buyer to buy on the carcass, good luck. I don't know of any around vail. Hard to pay someone for a coyote that is only worth $15.00 in the end. If you had bobcats, you might be able to find someone.

Thanks guys. All the info helps. I know that prices are going down. I really just want to get rid of them maybe even for free.

rscott,

Chris Jurney in Craig is a trip, but if the fur is good hge will take them on teh round. He will pay what he can, but never very much. I usually give him around 20 yotes a year and end getting one skinned and tanned for free ($70). He will better for cats, provided they are not to tore up. The best bet is to first find someone to give you an idea on how to grade fur. The biggest factor in ability to sell is quality, and there is a big difference between grades, just not real obvious to us nonfur guys.

If your hunting around Walden there are a couple boys who were doing fur as part of thier FFA projects, but that was 2 years ago. Not sure they are doing anymore.

Vail itself is so yuppy, probably not much close to you, but always check the colorado tappers assoc. you never know. As for me I take the good ones, sale them or give away, let the other lay and calculate how many back strap I gave future hunters.

Thanks again for all the great info. It is real hard around here just because of the yuppy tree huggers. But the coyote hunting is great because noone is hunting them.

I Live in Pueblo West,I run a taxidermy business out of my home. I buy big game capes and also buy furs for taxidermy and also buy whole and skinned coyotes, bobcats, fox, badger. to sell at fur market.
I try to pay as good as I can. I sell alot of furs and capes on consignment. so hunters will make more money.
example: another taxidermist wants your bobcat for $500. I will sell to him and send you a check for $350.00
If this helps anyone out please give me a call.
of course bobcats, bears, mountain lions all need to be sealed.

thanks
dan
