I am looking at moving to the state of Colorado and wondered where in Colorado is a great spot for hunting and fishing. Elk and of course the YOTES and BOBS and LIONS are the most important to me. If any of you guys from Colorado could tell me great spots to live with a wife and kids as well as good hunting this would be fabulous. Thanks guys

pd_buster,
Are you saying just stay away form boulder and you should be ok? I am thinking something around Salida, or Canon City. If this is no good Grand Junction is a thought in the back of my mind.

Canyon city is good for a coyote hunter.anything north of Denver is either leased up or to populated to hunt. Stay down south the hunting is better all the way around! i only live in boulder because I have too!

camo,
Thanks this is the exact things I was looking for. Maybe Grand Junction is the spot to consider then.

Try Maybell it isawesome up here. Especially if you want to be 90 miles from anything. HEHE. Depends on what your looking for and what job market your in. AS far as hunting the whole state is great just some is better than other areas.

Where are you moving from?

Precisely. Boulder is "20 square miles surrounded by reality."

Hit the nail on the head! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I pretty much just chase the yotes so I can't help you with the other stuff, but the best hunting will be the mountains and the western half of the state. Closer you get to the city, the more people you have to compete with for use of land...

Thanks fellas I have thought of mostly western CO I am hoping for South in Alamosa or west in Grand Junction. Is Grand Junction a good spot my uncle is a big boss on the riggs and he says he has hit 2 bobs on the road the past 10 months. So is there good Prairie Dogs near GJ as well as fishing and predators.

You didn't say what line of work you are in. Many times that alone dictates where you will have to live. Of course, if you are independently wealthy and don't need to "work" then you can live just about any place you want to. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Like GDB I live in Boulder because I "have" to. Being a specialist, I have to go where the industry is. The space technology corporations are few and far between, so you live where they are located. I envy the "generalists". They can find work anywhere they choose.

I am looking to move to Colorado this year also. I dont mean to 'hijack' the tread, but what is a good area that is within 1-2 hour drive from The Denver International airport? I was looking at the northern area like Ft. Collins or Bolder. You guys think south of Denver is better? I would love to live in other places within the state but need to be close to airport for my job.

I am finishing my Masters degreein rehabilitation Counseling and will be done in 12 weeks. I really really want to move to Colorado and like you say it will depend on hte work but Alamosa has a job right now and I am hoping to land this one.

Alamosa is one of the coldest places in the nation.
Durango is much easier in the winter, and offers some employment. It is just north of Farmington NM, and many comute so they can live in Colorado. I did that for 8 years.
There are two gold medal trout streams in the 4 corners.
There are plenty of people in the 4 corners that need rehab.
Cortez/Dolores is ideal in many respects as to what you want. Elk and deer hunting is top notch, turkey is good, Pasture Poodles abound, just about every thing, but work. I lived and hunted there for 20 + years. I would go back, but my kids/grandkids are on the Eastern front.
