Comparing the CVA Optima vs T/C Omega

Took both to the range today to double check my zero's. Accuracy was probably a toss up, may give just a slight edge to the T/C. Both rifles wear 3x9 Nikons and both are 50 caliber. Both shooting 110 grains of Blackhorn powder and a 250 grain T/C Shockwave sabot with a Winchester 209 primer. First thing I noticed was the recoil of the Omega. It was a lot stouter than the CVA. Why??? How knows. Loading, the CVA was a bunch easier to load than the Omega. You really had to muscle up to shove a sabot down the barrel of the Omega. The CVA was a breeze to load. Breech plug removal, hands down goes to the CVA, no tools needed with the CVA, you need wrenches for the T/C. Priming and cocking, again goes to the CVA. Being a break open the breech plug is right there easy to prime while the Omega, you have to fumble around the scope and unless using a priming tool, kind of a hassle. All in all, the CVA is IMO just as good a rifle as the T/C and has a few features that I like better on the CVA. Both shoot MOA pretty easy so like I was saying, its a toss up there. The T/C is a little lighter so to some that might be a factor. Just a little comparison of two rifles. Both will kill with authority and now I have two that are ready to hunt!! Just comparing two rifles.

I mentioned this in your other thread but do you have the correct BH 209 breechplugs for each rifle? If you don't this may be the reason you're feeling different recoil with the two guns, they have different size flash holes that are specifically made for pellets not lose powder.

If you do have the correct breechplug it must have something to do with how hard that sabot is to load, be sure you don't have a buildup of plastic in that TC. The TEZ sabots that come with the Barnes bullets are the easiest to load that i've come across, they are very slick.

Id go with whichever has better accuracy, but I do like the break action of the CVA so i'd tend to go for that first. Follow up shots are also going to be much quicker with the break action. I shoot the Accura V2 with the Bergara barrel.

Neither rifle has the BH breech plug. Never really thought it was a major big deal. Both ignite fine with powder or pellets. I use to use 777 for years with no problems.

I have a CVA Accura (the first version) that I like really well. Looks like a Pro Hunter. Has a 27"SS fluted Bergarra barrel. Shoots great, loads easy, has a nice trigger break. I shoot 100gr 777 with a 240 gr TC XTP mag sabot and Winchester 777 209 primers. Would I like to have a TC Pro Hunter, sure. Does the CVA do just as good, yeah.

I have a CVA Optima II. I like everything about it but the cheap sights they put on it. In Colorado, you can't use a scope. My buddy and I both bought CVA Optima II's this year. He bought the Camo and I bought the Black. Both of us had problems with the cheap sights. I will be changing mine this off season for a more quality sight.

I do you use the Black horn 209 powder with the Black Horn 209 Breech kit. The Black Horn 209 Powder just burns so much cleaner than anything else.

I have shot both with the same load combo Don't know what the difference is but the omega will flat out thump ya. I've had my optima for about 5 years now running 100grains of bh209 with a 300 grain 45cal non mag xtp,cci 209m primers.
Pyscodog get the BH209 breech plug for your optima in colder weather I fought hang fire / no fires. I believe the omega if fine with it breech plug design.

I agree with tomcat, the Omega is fine with BH 209. Used one for several years and never had an issue, even in cold weather. The secret is keeping the breech plug clean. I also used a small rubber o-ring to make sure all the fire went into the barrel and not into the action.
