Concealed weapon suggestions wanted

Whatever pistol you get... practice, practice, practice correctly. Use a GOOD holster and a GOOD gun belt. With an empty gun, learn to wear it and draw from concealment. Then move up to a fully loaded gun and practice some more.

If you can find a local IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association) club join it. It's a great way to learn safe gun handling skills.

Will you have gotten good ideas for carry firearms and the proper mindset for carrying a firearm. I would suggest you keep the thought of concealed carry just as you had when you posted this thread, but change the order of which you planned to go about it. Start off with a couple self defense/handgun training course. Once you finish those then you can evaluate where you're at with a carry firearm.

A concealed firearm is not a deterrent as it stays hidden until there are no other options but to use that firearm to stop the threat.

I will add that with our political climate if you think you may decide to concealed carry, that you go ahead and get the paperwork started or even finished. If you decide later that you dont want it you can turn it in or let it expire. Don't wait until the crap that happened in CO happens in your state and you have fewer right to work with.

I will 2nd IDPA. It's a great way to learn some great shooting and handgun basics with your carry firearm and drawing from a holster, reloading, and shooting outside your comfort zone.

If money wasn't a concern then Sig 239 in 9mm for the auto
And a S&W 310 10mm for the revolver.

Budget wise the new remington R51 looks promising and I'm not a remington guy. But will probably pick one up.

And the Ruger LCR is a great little snubbie. My wife carries one in 38.

First thing I'll mention since your still in the looking, thinking, research phase.

BUY and READ Massad Ayoobs "In Gravest Extreme"

I have carried with a permit for 38+ years now, 24/7 it's within no more than 3 feet from me. Unless I have to go thru a metal detector, I'm carrying. 3 times in those years I most likely would not be here or have had serious harm done to myself if I wasn't. 2 of those in nanny states where "the police will protect you" There's "mans" law and Gods law and I'll take jail over the morgue.

I'm not going to say what to buy, that's your choice. I have seen good firearms mentioned in the thread however some calibers I would not trust my life or anyone elses to. Get a "stopper", Stop the threat.

Going to buy? Buy QUALITY. It's your life and "yours" your trying to save. I have a shop, many times I'm asked to order/stock/sell what I consider JUNK. I don't. "but it's got a lifetime garuntee" Does that garuntee garuntee your life? Trust your life to a pot metal firing pin and firearm?

I carry a Custom Combat Commander 1911, 45acp. I trust it, I fully trust it's capability, reliability. On rare occasion with max conceal-ability concerns,, a compact 9mm but while I trust reliability, I don't trust capability.

Over the yers ive collected a huge pile of carry pistols and ccw holsters. I carry off duty all the time, the best blend of concealabilty, comfort, retention, flexibility, caliber effectiveness is........ The springfield xds in 45acp with the n82 holster. I love the holster and absolutly love the lil powerhouse. Because....the 45 speaks for itself. Mag capacity isnt high but good enough for anything short of a running gunfight with a crew of bank robbers. Its suprisingly easy to shoot for a space gun in that caliber,,,unbelievable really. Its a single stack so its hides good. I like the striker fired pistols for carry over the dao trigger guns. Im a glock armorer and love them... But they are fat,,, and need to be in the holster, the xds has a grip safety which can allow a few more carry options.,,,,,, love that gun..

I probably look at this differently than most folks do. If I want to defend myself, or my family, I don't want a handgun, I want a rifle or shotgun. If I can't have that, and I couldn't have a good submachinegun, I'd want a large caliber pistol with lots of ammo. Now, the problem with those choices are that none of them are easily concealed. To me, concealed carry means just that....you are carrying a weapon and no one knows you have it on you. Over the years, I've packed a lot of different handguns, from a Colt 1911 45, to a cigarette size pack 25 ACP. The 25 has been the only one that I've ever felt was truly concealable. Maybe I haven't experimented enough with different holsters, but I just haven't found the perfect way to carry a handgun where no one knows I have it. My current guns that I carry are a Glock 26 and a Taurus 85, and I just can't get comfortable with either of them as far as feeling that no one knows I'm packing. I am kicking around the idea of a 380, and really like the S&W Bodyguard with it's safety, and also the little Kahr 380. I think they might fit in the pocket good enough to make me feel more comfortable. At least, they might allow me to shoot my way back to my vehicle, where I could pull out a real fighting gun.

I carry a taurus pt 809c...most of the time, great fit in my hand sa or da with a hammer,, very few handguns that are striker fires that I like.......X

I have tried to carry several different pistols and finally settled on a Ruger LCP 380 because I can have it with me all the time and it never gets in the way, I know that people think it is to small of a caliber for self defense but if I need use it I plan on emptying the mag as I am trying to get myself out of the situation. The way I see it is 3-5 shot center mass should be enough to either put someone down or slow them down enough so I can retreat.

FWIW I'm 5'10", 160 lbs and I can conceal a 3" 1911 in an inside the waistband hybrid holster, Galco King Tuk. I wear jeans almost all the time and just need them 1" bigger to be comfortable when I'm carrying.

If a beanpole like me can do it, anyone can.

My plan originally was to just carry the lcp .380 all the time. When practicing on bowling pins I noticed that a lot of times that bullet barely penetrated the plastic shell. That's when I relegated the 380 to last-ditch pocket carry and figured out a way to carry a 45.

This time of year its easy. I carry my full size XD40 in my Carhart breast pocket everywhere no one knows its there.

Recently I got a good deal on a Sig P250sc .40. I havent shot it much yet, I still need some practice in the DOA trigger, but it fits in an ankle holster well and slides into my engineer boot.

I've heard it said that "a longer barrel is easier to conceal than a longer handle." I havent carried enough pistols to say much else.
