contender pistol for deer?

My dad has one in .35 rem and has drop a lot of deer and a few black bear.It does a heck of a job.Just have to make sure you have a hold of it cause it jumps alot!
 
I own a contender and a XP-100 in 35 Remngton. If you reload, there is different loading data for rifle and pistol. From what I have seen is that factory ammo is loaded for rifle.

Hogs and deer!!! 460 S&W with 250gr. FTXs out to 100yds. this year. Super accurate, if I do my part. I struggled getting 300gr. to group well. Good for that....the recoil is substantial on heavy bullets at near 2000fps.
 
i use a 308 and a 7-08 and a 22-250. its an encore though. theyve all worked extremely well. with my preference being to the 308 as far as accuracy. the 22-250 is dead accurate also but i just am not comfortable with a 22 on deer hunting, not that it doesnt work well for deer, but we have bear here too
 
Had the 35 Rem, wasn't as happy with it as I wanted to be. So here's another vote for the 7-30. No complaints on it so far, had it for about 10 years.
 
In 1994 I started with the 35 Remington in the Super 14 Contender. I was unhappy with the continued miss fires and had it rechambered for the more powerful 358 JDJ.
The 358 JDJ is a “Hammer” in the Contender. I’ve taken several Indiana whitetails with it over the years. I run 180 grain Hawk flat points at 2300fs. For those that are unfamiliar with this cartridge it is a 444 Marlin case necked down to .358 caliber, created by J.D. Jones at SSK Industries.
Last year I added one of the ultimate hand-canons to my deer hunting line, again in 35 caliber.. This new barrel and cartridge by SSK Industries is the VERY Powerful 35-06 JDJ. A highly modified 30-06 case blown out and necked up to .358 caliber. I run a 180 grain Hornady soft point at 2680fs and the 220 grain Speer flat point at 2580fs this out of a 15” Encore barrel with fish-gill muzzle brake. Terminal performance and accuracy is outstanding.
I am a big advocate of the .358 caliber..!!!
