Converting a 2 spring to 4?

Hello i have a few Bridger 1.65 and was wondering if i could add a pair of springs to make it a 4 spring. I feel my 1.65 may not be stout enough for coyotes and cats.I noticed Minnesota Trapline sells them. Would i need longer pins? Thank you, i am kinda winging and learning as i go.

If your pins are too short to hold a helper spring, then yes you need longer ones. The #3 has pins long enough for four coiling. I made longer pins myself for my NW 1 3/4 traps that I modified. I sold them years ago, now mainly have #3 Bridger,NW.
I got new round metal at a salvage yard, cut and bent it to fit, not too hard.

Get in touch with Terry Montgomery in Ogden, Utah. He is the distributor for Bridger traps. Both he and his wife are really good people and they will fix you up with what you need. When I started trapping twenty-some years ago, Terry was my "go-to" guy for advice and equipment.

Hope it helps.

I agree that a 1.65 would not be my primary coyote or cat trap. I would not use less than a #2 for yotes or cats. That said, here is a picture of a coyote caught in a stock 1.5 bridger that was set for a fox.

Even though the 1.5 and 1.65 don't have the jaw spread to consistantly target the coyotes and cats, they are stout enough to do the job.

I was afraid of that. If i look at it right that picture shows the spread of the jaws is to small and there could be a lot of no catches or toe catches. Might have to invest in some 3's. And back to boiling.
