Here are some pics of Jackson Varmint I ordered 3 months ago. It arrived 4 months earlier than expected!I put a Leupold Vari-X III 4.5-14x40 on it. The target is the first three shot group I fired at 100 yards!! Not bad fireforming. AA1680 with 20 gr Dogtown bullets, Bob

What kind of wood is that? It beeeyouteeful! I want one! Please tell me that it was less than $1500 so that I don't have to steal from the kid's college fund again!!!

My wife has no idea how to log on this website so I will tell the truth. I paid $1639 including state sales tax. Special ordered but no upgrades. I felt guilty enough laying that much money down on a rifle I had no control over. I expected wood like framing lumber. That would be my luck. I wet myself when I saw it!! Buyer's remorse completely disappeared when I fired those first three shots into that group. That was fireforming the brass also. Group was really at 100 yds. Go to Cooper's website and you can price out options you want. I wish I had added fluted barrel option.

You guys can imagine how happy I am!

We have all owned turds. This rifle helps me forget about bad guns!!

Great looking wood on that stock. Nice group, especially if it is a fire forming group. I am not sure what a 17 AH is though, what is it?

17AH is a wonderful round. I have two rifles in that caliber. Let me know if you are interested in more loads, I've got a ton of data. Including Trail Boss for fireforms

My buddy just bought a Jackson in 22LR. Its wood is pretty, but not as pretty as yours!! Congrats on the new rifle, its a looker!!

Eurosport, you sure rolled the dice on that one and came up a winner. From my vantage point, that look's like AA+, if not almost AAA-, wood. It's really a beauty.

As others have said, the 17AH is a lot of fun. I have three Cooper 17AH's and love them all.

I have never been able to get the Dogtown bullets to work very well in my guns. They are OK for fire forming but that's about all. The 20gr. V-Max has been the consistent bullet. Bergers and Kindlers do very well; however, for my Cooper's, the extra $$ has not been worth it.

In one of my 17FB's that is a different story.

AA1680 has been my powder of choice as well.

Good luck! Keep us posted on how it continues to shoot.

The end of the box was marked AA+. The Cooper dealer I ordered through said it is the nicest wood without the additional charge for AAA wood he had ever seen.
I have been loading AA1680 I like the results. I use same powder in my Cooper 17 AB (Ackley Bee). 218 Bee necked down to 17.
I just tried Lil'Gun I blew first two primers. I stopped there and pulled those bullets. I have read several people using Lil'Gun but mine were too hot for fireforming. I use it in 22 K-Hornet with great results.
I have 7 17 caliber rifles and everyone loves the Dogtowns. I found the terminal effect on prairie dogs less dramatic(entertaining) than the V-Maxes.
Thanks for all the positive comments. I would love some favorite load data.
Bob

Not sure what your LilGun fireform load is, but I used 9.1gn of LilGun in my .17AH for fireforming with no problems. It was no fancy Cooper though, so maybe that makes the difference, lol. Now on to the .14AH...

That's awesome. I purchased a Weatherby 17 HMR last year and have really got comfortable with it. Too bad it doesn't have enough "umph" for coyotes although I could go for a dead shot. I prefer my 22-250 for putting down dogs.
