bea175,
Nice rifle! I bet that left hander cost a few pennies!
How does it shoot?

Thanks too everyone of all the info!

$600.00 Coopers must be nice !

When varmint hunting I load my centerfire rifles one at a time anyway.

Bayou, Cooper does make a "Scheels Varminter" exclusively for Scheels, but Scheels also carries the entire Cooper line, including MTV, Phoenix, VT, Jacksons, and the new Laminated stock Varminter.

The Scheels Varminter is basically a standard Varminter with the Buick holes. AA+, instead of the AAA walnut that the Montana wears.

For the $$, the Cooper rifles are still the best bang for your buck!

It shoots just little ragged 17 cal holes at 50 yards and under 1/2 inch at 100 yards on good calm days if i do my part. I believe Cooper used a Lilja Barrel on this rifle. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I understand....I tried to say that with the use of the word "generally", but guess I didn't explain myself very well.

I have a friend who went into a Scheels store last summer while up north PD shooting and bought a Cooper. He didn't pay attention or notice the serial number prefix and bought the rifle thinking he had bought a MTV.

It was only after he arrived back home that he realized he had bough a Scheels varient and not a normal cataloged Cooper MTV. He likes the rifle but is still a little bummed by the fact he realy didn't fully get what he thought he was getting at the time.

I guess I should have stated to check the serial number on a Cooper found in a Scheels store as it may not be exactly what it appears to be from a cosmetic point of view if you've been looking at the Cooper web site.

He is very happy with the accuracy of the rifle.

Cooper use Wilson Custom Shop(button cut) but for $400 extra cooper can upgrade to any name brand custom barrel of your choice.

After making this post I called up a buddy who has helped me fine tune the loads for one of my Cooper. I know after he saw how well mine was shooting, he ordered one also in 6BR which he specified a Shelin barrel, my call to him was to see how it's been shooting. Any way, these are his exact
words “Do you want to trade?” He never did tell me what kind of group he was getting but he did say it’s a keeper it's just not shooting bug holes groups he expected and more likely it's because the barrel is not broke-in yet.

I have just recieved my cooper montana varminter 1/9 twist barrel in .223 cal. It looks and shoots incredible, so far i have only tried two five shot groups with it, one with 50gr vmax and H335 the second with sierra 65gr soft points and H4895 Both groups shot under half inch at 100yds, it is the best rifle i have by far.
