I bought a 50lb bag of each from McMaster, the delivery man wasn't very pleased looking! I mix them together about 2 parts cob to 1 part walnut and a little car polish. The walnut really cleans the brass while the cob polishes it.

Why was the 24 walnut too fine for you.

I did try commercial 10-14 corncob (300 pounds for ~$320, shipped) and one of my employees complained that it was too dusty, and she didn't want to unload the polishers in the morning, after they had run all night.

Seemed to turn to dust on me. I didn't try it by itself, added it to one of my mixtures so maybe I didn't give it a fair shake. Also it might do better vibrating instead of tumbling. Sounds like you do a lot of cleaning, have you looked at using a concrete mixer? I've seen guys get them for cheap and use them for bulk.
 
Yes... we were using a concrete mixer, and the noise and mess were not acceptable. We also used a converted concrete mixer for drying - we put the drum of a clothes drier on it and used an industrial propane torch to heat the cases while they were tumbled in the drier drum...

... the best I can say was that it "worked". But the noise level was 120db (very dangerous

I left that group and I'm gonna start a new operation this summer, and it needs to be more civilized or I won't be able to get employees.
