Cougar Tracks? (w/pics)

Dog. The 3 lobed pad would be cat. The first ones posted appear not be 3 lobed.

Not to pile on... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Yep, those are from a canine. They're oblong as opposed to rounded, nail marks. I'm no expert either, but I'd bet those sooner came from a Labrador Retriever rather than a cougar.

I just rolled both my dogs over for an inspection... they both have 2 pads at the back and not three.

I would say they are definitely canid tracks. If they were cat they would have a dish in the leading edge of the heal pad and 3 equal sized lobes on the back. Some dogs will show 3 lobes on the back but the center lobe on dog is much wider than the outers if it appears to have three lobes. A cougar track usually has a leading toe and the heal pad sets somewhat crooked compared to the toes. For some great pictures go to the sites.
