Cougars in WNY

LOL Keep it civil.
I'm not saying that cats don't exist in NY. Anything is possible. There may also be martians too. For real guys. However, I am not one who believes in them....yet.
I for one can't buy that the DEC has brought then in. Just imagine the process and coordination that that would take. Someone would have details and paper work for such a project. There would be no way to cover it up.
Now, I do think it's possible that some of the stray cats out there may have at one time been pets. But, that doesn't constitute a breeding population in the wild. Those cats would die off and leave NO off-spring (unless is was a pregant female that was released). But here we go talking about possibilities. I'll stick to the odds and say that I just need a little more solid evidence before I concede that they're are more than...........5 in the wilds of NY. (this gives me an out when one is hit by a car next week and caught by channel 5 news)

You did not here about NJ fish and game importing Coyotes into NJ but they did, and you did not hear that PA was trading wild turkeys for Coyotes either but they did there a lot of things fish and game departments do that is off public record just like any branch of government.

Please read my post. To beat a dead horse, just provide some documentation. That's all.
There may be some sarcasm in my post, but I'm just saying that I (me) want some more documentation.
It's like martians....they may exist but so far I have not personally seen anyting that proves to me that they do.
I'm sure that if those things are true (trading turkeys for coyotes, reintroducing cougars, etc.), there is some record on file to prove it happened.

Well... keep it to yourself, but my cousin's girlfriends step daddy ex-wife’s mechanic’s customer knows for a fact they stocked rattlesnakes from black helicopters at night. It’s sure ‘nough a fact ‘cause I know them all pretty much my whole life - sorta. And besides, the guy that told the mechanic is a Pro-Staff hunter, videographer, and writer! Here is his picture, ya'll may recognize him? Just funnin’ ya’ll… lol.

....Nevermind, I don't even want to get into a debate about Pa coyotes

alledgedly, and there is where the fault is, theres been tons of pics all over the internet of cougars, that were ALLEGEDLY tyaken in NY, yet, they werent. years ago a group( perhaps rocky mountain elk fed) wanted to reintroduce elk into NY, the amount of public meetings and environmental impact statemens was staggering, now can you imagine the amount of public outcry if the state wanted to release a potentially dangerous thing like cougars?? it would be insane

Last time I stopped in there (a year+ ago), there was a picture of a dead lion that was allegedly shot by a NY bowhunter near Sanitaria Springs, NY. I have not been back there since & won't re-hash the story I heard, so hear it for yourself from the man that told me at the time...

Call the number and let us know what you can learn about that lion from the shop owner. After all, the picture was proudly displayed in his place of business, so he should know all about it. I, for one, wasn't the only one who saw that photo...

In this day of information overload and a video camera in virtually every pocket, where a senator cant even beat off in a public restroom without getting caught...the public would know [beeep] well if cougars/coyotes/bears/wolves were being released in NY.

I'd like to belive.... Thats why my camera is always handy, released pet or not. A great read is "Beast OF Never, Cat of God". Lots of pro & con there, and a great chapter by a coyote hound hunter, a non-believer that found a line of tracks one day in Michigan. I guess what keeps my mind open is being old enough to remember when there were no coyotes, no fishers, no moose, few bears, ect. A track punched into the snow should be about the size of a softball, I have a full mount of a 125 pound cat I got in Utah, a 270 is dwarfed next to the foot. All the stories of this or that F&G dept stocking coyotes, cougars, ect. just muddy things up. I think the last thing we need in the northeast is an endangered species for the anti's to protect. The trappers in Maine know this because of the Lynx

why would I call??? so they can say they ALLEDGEDLY saw something...................ok I allege I saw a smurf in the woods the other day, wanna call me and prove me wrong? you cant.......its simple enough, without PROOF, no matter how adamant they are they couldnt prove anything to me

yea dec says there arent any mt lions in ny but i think they have been putting them out just like they did with the coyote. In 20 years or so when they are being seen more and more they will say yea we put them out. I know if i see one when im calling night or day im going to shoot it and then get rid of it. I know years ago by me there was a cattle farm that had a bull or two get killed. they saw it but didnt have a gun now they have guns in all the trucks

Feral hogs are becoming a PITA in some areas of Pa., and the Game Commission, EXCEPT for certain counties where they are trying some experiments to trap/rid them, want them dead. We can shoot them at will here if we see one, just can't do it in some WMU's that the PGC is playing in........
