just wondering if anyone has a bizarre range like me.cow pasture, with a small river off to the side.my shooting set up is,4ft folding plastic table, garage sale chair, lead sled.during june and july fishing pole and catfish bait, with bells on pole as i,m shooting.annual cost for the range shooting,(FREE.)...coyote exterminator for the farmer ....life is good.......ha ha

We shoot on a 15 acre pasture. Generally prone off of a bipod, but for load testing we will drag out the lead sled and a table.

I am in the process of building a shooting bench with a cover for that field and it will be a dedicated shooting range. I will cut hay off of it, but not run the cattle in it.

I have out to 200yds behind my garage with steel backstops at 50, 100 and 200yds. To shoot 250-400yds i go down my driveway and have a seperate backstop off to the side. Iv gotten a few funny looks laying prone 20yds off the road.

I have a shooting bench built into the back deck on my house. It overlooks a pasture in which I have targets set up from 40 to 500yrds with the ability to shoot 565yards. This year im building a fence around my 100yard target since the beef cows think it's for scratching there head and back on. Its a guarantee that as soon as I take my first shot they will come over the hill and hang out in front of the target. The benefit to having the cows out there is the patties they leave on the back hillside, they make for good shooting practice at unknown distances :-D

man told me one time "220....221 whatever it takes." lol sounds like a nice setup. i too get funny looks as i used to have to shoot down the driveway to get 100 to 120 yards. i just throw sand bag on the hood of the colorado and fire away. shooting away from incoming traffic of course.

I can shoot 200 from basement patio. If I walk to the 200 yard birm I can shoot 90% from that out to 350 down the powerline cut. If I go to the neighbors I can shoot over 1000 down the power line cut.

Got a barbed wire wrapped backstop in the middle of a pasture in front of a grassy hill. No tables, just shoot prone until the weeds grow up then shoot prone out of truck bed. Can shoot up to 200yds flat, then 312yds for a portion of the year until foilage gets too bad and have another spot at 585yds if the cows are cooperating. I trap on the farm and get rid of a few groundhogs so they let me shoot there. I have to pick my times though, no Sunday AM shooting since there is a church right over the hill.

At the farm shop there really isn't a max range. You can see on the level 15 miles or so. How far do you want to go to check targets?

600 yards is where my equipment is limited.

Sounds great. One of these days maybe. For now its the local gun club (Private) 200 yard max and 20 minutes away.

I went to a small country school and our baseball field was the neighbor's cow pasture. Probably explains why I was never very good at sliding into base.

MAN! Must be nice! I don't live in the big city, but moved to the "country" after retiring. But soon came the city slickers and now all we have is lots of BULL S_ _ _, no cows and tons of idiots who claim to know whats best for you. Might I recommend you first realize the priviledge and beauty you have and secondly lock your corrals and keep strangers for out west and the east off your lands. I try real hard not to be envious of others, but you guys are making it tough!

Very thankful to have a place to shoot 1700yrds SAFELY.Local farmer allows 3 buddies and me to shoot on his place as long as we leave it like we left it or better.

We only shoot as a group and dont bring outsiders in.

I am fortunate. This view, with my young grandson grinning,
has the pistol range in the background, with just a hint
of the 200 yard rifle range to the left.

Rotate the bench and it goes out past 600 yards:

I built the bench, so I could tow it around with the
ATV, or tractor. It is solid, and works for either
shoulder shooters.

The first picture is dated. The grandson has grown some,
just got his first pellet gun, and the pistol range has
had a major upgrade. Berm grew taller and doubled in width,
and there are a BUNCH more target stands there now. And the
gravel pad grew, along with a new one added at 25 yards for
some competition practices.

No pics but I have a farmer/customer that I bowhunt and turkey hunt on his land. He let me build a bench and put some gongs up. We have them set at 200,300,400,and 500 with some more going up at 600 & 700yds. I keep the deer population down and ammo for his 243 and he lets me shoot all I want. I also have some closer gongs that I move to shoot pistols at 25 and 50yds with the 22cal rifles. I also have a public range about a mile away and when I am there in the mornings I have the place all to my self.

I am good friends with a farmer who happens to have a bit of land so we turned one of the canyons into a shooting range.

Have a big concrete patio at the head of the canyon to over look the 1400 yard range. We have gongs from 300-1000 every 100 yards, as well as a 1200 and 1400 yard gong. We shoot towards the north so the gongs are nice and visible all day, plus we dont have to fight the sun in our eyes ever. To the west is the 100 yard target board for load work. Only time this is a small problem is in the evening, have to fight the sun a little bit, but still easily doable. We also have a concrete bench and bring out the lead sleds for work up. After zeroing and load work up we lay down the shooting mats and shoot from 300-1400 prone w/bipods for real life hunting scenario shots.

We could stretch it another 500-600 yards if we wanted to shoot a mile or 2000 yards.

Friends and family are allowed to go there as long as you pick up the place and be respectful, common sense really. Re paint the gongs after you leave, pick up any trash, brass, etc..You would have to know how to get out there in the first place so you dont usually see to many guys and if you do then you know there suppose to be there.

This is over looking the 300-1400 yard gongs.
