Little known fact:
I grew up on a farm, where instead of raising crops, we raised cattle & horses. Until my early teens, we had brood mares & raised/sold colts...as well as having a couple geldings & "non-breeding" mares to ride.
Now, it was a small place...it wasn't any "big ranch" or nothing.
But, I was riding horses by age 4, which continued until about age 20.
Besides using the horses to "round up" cattle, we also attended Quarter Horse shows with them, riding racing events like barrel racing & such.
Given how I was raised, I was brought up on good old-fashioned Country (and Western) music...and dressed/lived the part of a "cowboy".
Until shortly before I graduated, I had serious intentions of moving to Montana/Wyoming & trying to find work as a modern cowboy on some big ranch.
However, although my mindset about cowboys & the "cowboy life" never changed, I was "persuaded" to give up that dream, & "get a real job".
OK, enough about that.......
Late last night, I was watching a "cowboy" Christmas show on the local PBS station called Christmas On The Trail.
It reminded me of my youth, & how I always had enjoyed a "cowboy-style" Christmas. (example: I got a new saddle for Christmas when I was 10!!)
I had a little time, this morning, to kill, while I wait for the temps to rise high enough that I can get outside & do some work........
.......So, I thought I'd start this thread to share cowboy Christmas stories; poems; songs & memories with any of our PM brethern who either are cowboys, or at one time were cowboys.
Hope y'all enjoy the next few weeks......and reflect on the "cowboy" philosophy of what Christmas is all about.
