coy-dogs...

Yep Chili, I'm with you on the black panther deal. But around here people see them ALL the time and are never questioned why they didn't kill them. And he usually looks like the guy on the news thats telling how the toronado sounded when it came over his.... umm.. house. Coydogs are a possibility, but I'm like Danny, I'd like to see some proof. I live in East Texas. We have a lot of wild dogs and coyotes roaming around and I have never seen what I believe to be a cross. I'm no scientist, but I believe if it happens it is very, very, very rare.

Pictures of real ,real bad mounts in first two links. The google search link.....don't know, but it sure didn't convince me of anything?.....just looked like a german shepard, not enough proof to my mind. Like Byron mentioned, Ive had a dozen different guys tell me about personal, or relative sightings, usually by a father or grandfather(and who would question dad or grandads integrity) concerning the mythical black panther, but not one has a photo,hide,mount or anything resembling proof? I find the same thing concerning coydogs......show me the money so to speak:)
 
I think its a regional thing. Here in N. Alabama I shot a mixed black ugly damn thing that was hunting with a classic grey coyote. I used a fawn distress call, they both came in. This thing had the pointed ears but short legs and stocky body with a thick wider head. The colors here go from tan, gray, silver, black, and dirt brown. I've shot skinny 30 pounders and have also shot up to 60 lb dogs too. Before the coyotes moved in this area (about 15 years ago) there was a severe feral dog problem. I think they just kind of mixed up together and with the feral dogs being initally dominant, they set the stage. Now the coyotes have the upper hand.

Well I guess I might as well add my two cents worth! While it is rare that coyotes cross with dogs;they can and do cross. I should know;I'm a control specialists. I have personally witnessed three domestic dogs running with two coyotes take down a grown angus cow in the winter of 94.I've also killed five Coydogs within the last seven years.Apart from their usually shorter muzzle,and slightly longer ears;they pretty much resemble a full coyote.The big difference is, they aren't shy like a coyote.One farmer was almost attacked when yelling at, what he percieved to be a coyote, chasing his livestock.It turned and headed for him;luckily he was standing in the driveway of his barn,and managed to get to the loft as his two Border Collies fought with the halfbreed;resulting in the loss of one Collie,and a huge vet bill for the other!It only took one challing howl for me to bring him in,teeth showing!Theres rarely a night that I hunt alone,when I don't think about that day and what it would be like to call one in unexpectedly at night.
 
just one comment, on the pic of the coyote crossed with the husky. Isn't it amazing what they can do in a lab. you can cross anything with almost anything. Our biologist said that in the coydog dept, again it almost never happens but it can, but it is almost always the male yote breeding a domestic female, the female yote will not tolerat a domestic dog during breeding. just a thought, you know how some women are. LOL

All I know is that I had a coyote coming in, then it morphed into an eagle, then morphed into a half tiger half wilda beast thing and scared me close to death. Then it stood up and flew to the moon!

Wow...lots of stories and lots of speculation!

My take is that mother nature can pretty much do what see wants...who are we to say yea or nay!

Oh yea, Byron...that wasn't bigfoot, it was his cousin the Yetti!
