coy/wolf barks and howls out of your preymaster

Coydog is a coyote dog hybrid. Usually a male coyote mates a female dog resulting in a coydog!

I use them mostly as a locator, but coyotes will come to that as well so technically it is a caller too. It all depends on the time of year and situation.

handishooter--How far away were those coyotes that were doing the howling and barking? Could they have busted you and the howling and barking been warning barks and howls? If you drove your vehicle too close, they may have been watching you as you walked in.

How long did you stay on your stand? Maybe you aren't giving the coyotes enough time to come on in. I have found that this is the time of year when many coyotes up in North Dakota either come on in during the first 5 minutes or so or they come in way after a half hour or more have passed. If you have a quality bunch of land you are calling, I'd opt to stay for no less than a half hour, but probably would stay for 45 minutes or more.

What sequence of calls did you use? How long and often did you play the fawn in distress sound? How long and often did you play the coy dog sound?

In regard to that "coy dog" sound, I'm wondering if they are referring to the male coyote sound? Some folks call the male the "old dog" of the family and maybe the "coy dog" sound is just a male coyote sound????

We do not have a "coydog" sound on the Preymaster. We have what I have called a CoyWolf sound which is a coyotewolf hybrid. His name was Boy and he was a pet in our local zoo. When you left him alone in the woods he would start howling a lonesome type of bark and howl. It has proven to be a good attractant call as well as a somewhat effective locator. It works well in combination with prey species distresses also.

Well, Gerald explained it to you. There is also a good chance that they may have came in and you did not see them. There have been plenty of times when I thought I had made a dry stand, gave on more glassing to the hills yonder, stood up and off runs mr. coyote right under my nose. I would dare say we may only see half of what really comes in, especially if cover is thick. In the open it is a bit different.
