coydog pic

I don't know why some folks find it so hard to believe that Coydogs exist... They are very capable of inter-breeding among each other... Wolf hybrids (the ones bought for pets) are usually as much as 98% wolf after the domestic dog is bred back out of them over a few generations... But they are all from the canine species and capable of producing offspring... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
Robert, are you saying that coydogs can breed with each other and presumably with other dogs and coyotes and produce viable offspring? If you are what proof do you have? Cause if you do this would be a great question for one of my profs and I would love to show him some proof.
 
A domestic dog a coyote and a wolf are all nearly identical genetically. they all can interbreed with eachother and procuce fertile offspring. for all practical purposes they are the same species.
 
I don't have any pics, but I got an interesting story: 6or 7 years ago I raised a female pointer she was about 6 months old and I took her bird hunting well she got lost and we looked for her for 2 weeks with no sign, until about a month later I was calling coyotes with my dad and she came in with a coyote to make a long story short,
I stood up and called to her but she ran off like I was the devil, with the coyote. He had plans for her if you know what I mean. But I stopped that idea. Always wondered what would've happened. Just more fuel for the fire.
 
When I first saw this topic, I thought the doubt about coydogs existing would be bannished quickly, so I didn't post anything. I don't have any pictures or real proof, other than what I saw. My wife's cousin in South Dakota had a dog at one time that looked half collie and half coyote. This was a pretty freaky dog -- imagine a half-way tame coyote, and that's exactly what it acted like. Very skiddish and acted like it didn't trust anyone, but would come to the fence now and then if you called for it. It also had the yellow eyes of a coyote, but obviously had dog in the blood, too. Well, this dog never became "pet-like" enough for my "cousin-in-law", and I believe it snapped at him a couple of times, so he ended up shooting it. I have NO doubt in my mind that it was a dog-coyote cross.
 
OK, I guess the myth was "squashed" quite nicely in the Predator Biology forum. Nice picture from Bob/SoCal! That's kind of like what the coydog I saw looked like, except it was definitely part collie, and had even more coyote features.
