I was elk hunting, in the gila wilderness, last week, and heard my first wolf,(mexican wolves) and at night, a wolf would howl, and the coyote pack, would start yeping and barking, this lasted all night long, made some stands, the first stand had a wolf and a pair of coyotes, come in, did not shoot, as its hard to tell, them apart, when there in the brush, so I just play with them, did get three coyotes in 4 days.

Ryank, did sound like it, there came in from the same hill side, but not together, one moring we saw, three coyotes chasing a wolf, but at the time we were stalking a herd of elk.

Ron, we were, south of elk mtn, on top of the mtn., of pine canyon, we saw and heard alot of coyotes, saw two wolves only, but we could here them at night, we were camp, east of the hossey?, ranch, you seem to know this country.

Jeep,
No just read some field notes on those particular wolves, they have been hanging out around Elk mtn and the North Fork of the Gila for a month or better.
There are only two wolves in that pack a male and female, there was another male but has not been seen since July 2.
The last field note I read was dated october 9.

Rob, the two that I saw could have been the same one, I hope that lonesome wolf survives, those coyotes, they sure have a dislike for them, because, I imitated the wolf howl, on my stands. and the coyotes, came in to fight, had no respond to the rabbit call or coyote howls, maybe the wolf howl will work in other places.

thanks Rob, I'll be going up there,in a couple of weeks, hope I can call one up, so my kids can see it, and hear them.
