Coyote ate my cat! Black ones on top of that!

Well coyotes have just moved into the area, I spotted three the other day. It was pure black. No it was not a dog it howled like a coyote. These yotes were running deer out of my field. They were extremely long and mangy. The thing that told me they were yotes was how the howled. I went in the woods today after I found my cat mauled up. I swear I found a den of black pups in the grave yard out near my woods. It was dug in almost like a ground hog whole but larger. I have a feeling like the dumbo peta wild people that live down from me released some, Im assuming they have some wolf in them? These people have wolves in a pen, but these are smaller than a wolf. Im stunned speachless. I have to get hunting them.
If they are coyotes what sort of hunting tactics should I use. I live in the flats of nc and have a JS caller.
Im just pissed right now, I had been noticing my cat food despenser had run out quite often. What do I do? I left the puppies alone, but I think I need to kill em.
I just had to blow some steam!
Give me some suggestions!

RR,
If you found those new born pups recently, I don't think that they are coyotes. Seems a bit too early for coyotes to be dropping pups.

If those are coyote pups, and are pure black, then you could probably sell them. "If legal in your area."

Maybe wolf pups, I think they might have a little wolf in them. Has anyone ever seen a black coyote. I am new to coyotes as they just moved into my area and have had a population explosion along with the foxes. I know thats what killed my cat. They are really bold to, they ran a deer in my yard while I was working on crab pots. I have noticed that my rabit and qual population has deminished on my hunting field and in my orchards. How can I control them. I dont care to sell them I just want them out of here Im pissed. I just cant believe they would come in my yard and eat my cat!

First, I think you need a positive ID on exactly what "They" are... If in fact they are Black Yotes (Yes, They do Exist).... What you do is up to you. Some people say dont hunt when pups are in the den and some say do. You are the only person who has to deal with the decision you make on how to deal with them. I would say if you kill the parents do the right thing and kill the pups. At least they wont starve and take a week or so to die. This would not be my decision but like I said Its up to you....

Well I cant have them coming in my yard killing animals. Im furious. I guess Ill get the pups first with a .22 there are three. Then hunt the parents. I cant belive they would come in my barn and yard! Still cant get over it!

I agree you can't have predators in your yard! The pups would just be hard for me. I would just sit outside the den and off the parents first. As long as the pups are there and alive the parents will keep coming back to take care of them. Get a friend and both of you have rifles ready to go. Try and get the parents at the same time. If you do the pups first you should be able to call in the parents really well with a Pup distress call. This should be no real task and you should be able to eliminate the problem in a day....

RR, you have a terrific opportunity to observe at close quarters and to learn about one of the most fascinating predators on earth. If coyotes have finally emigrated into your region there will be others to replace these if you do kill them. Coyotes den within their claimed territory and your property is obviously attractive to coyotes since these could have claimed any area they chose. What attracted these coyotes will attract those that follow them.
If indeed they are coyotes. Coyotes normally whelp around April 15, betas and yearlings about a month later. If you saw the pups outside the den they were at least two weeks old, very early for coyotes. I would really like to see pics of the den and the pups and the adults if you are able to photograph them.

YOU SUCKERD ME IN RR

Before I gave out any more information, go to the post that reads something about getting around the NC law that has been locked out on calling in the east. Just something I feel in the wind.

Whatever they are, it's a good idea to off all of them if you off the pups, they may be cute, but they grow up and do what the big ones are doin'. If they don't have the general shape of coyotes, they may be some kind of cross, quite possibly wolf- out here in Idaho there were some german shepherd pups dumped off in the sagebrush and they crossed with yotes, very strange looking results, they will cross; pictures would be fabulous to see!

To many contradictions in this post. To early for them to have a den of pups right now. Coyote as well as fox populations explosion! yeah right! Doesn't happen like that.

Show me the money!

I'm with you Pruson. I don't think he's giving the whole story here. Too early for pups. You probably wouldn't found nothing left of that cat unless you found the coyote's turd, prusming it was a coyote that got it. Something else going on I think. kyray

Pruson, I may be way off on this but I thought that if there was a coyote explosion in population that would cut back on the fox population. I've been told that where you see alot of one that there would not be alot of the other. I'm not saying none, but a population explosion of both? This fellow sounds like an extremist that gets his feathers ruffled and acts and talks before he thinks. Like I said they had to stop one of his other posts because he was talking about breaking the law. Go to the post..Calling in the East/weeblin around the NC law or something like that. Richard Cronk and another moderator shut it down, pulled the plug, put on the kabash.

That was my point, both species expereincing a population explosion. Nope, no way. Coyotes ain't gonna share a territory and it's resources so well as for a fox population to increase in it.

Someone is yanking our chain on this one. Did you notice in his "weedling the NC game laws" post that he stated he lived in Western North Carolina, now in this post he lives on the coastal flats and was working on his crab pots in the yard.

I have actually met people like this before! They are neat to an extent.

Do yall own 2,000 acres? I dont think so, I know coyotes dont live where foxes live. The foxes live around the woody area and cutovers. While the fields and the grave yard has the coyotes. I also now have ground hogs I noticed today, yall say what yall want I really dont care to lie and what good does it do me. I took care of the pups and one parent. Its definitally a mix between a wolf and coyote or dog. It has pointed ears but has mange. Oh yeah and something about the mix but they ran the bob cats out of this ditch line where I had been seeing them. I know it sounds crazy but you belive what you want, its not worth my time to lie!
