Coyote box?

Dave, I would look into an aluminum tool box that sit's down inside the truck. They make them in several different sizes. I think building one out of wood no matter how thick your'e going to have the insulation factor =rotting coyotes, and won't last without serious reinforcement.

Maybe consider something like this?
McMaster-Carr

fit it with a pan under it with some kitty litter to soak up the mess.

Couple hundred bucks plus freight. Probably less than material and effort to build one.

Collapse's so it doesn't take up a bunch of garage space.

Interesting! The smaller ones that would fit the Tacoma look to be under $125, didn't look at shipping yet.

I still need to get a tape measure in there and decide exactly what size can be used. But those look like they could be adapted to do exactly what I have in mind. Break down for storage is no small plus, either.

Thanks for the heads up!

I had a pile of those collapsible containers. Could fit 2 trash cans nicely.
People sure like to steal them. I have none now.

So I don't run into the problem that you've got Dave because most of my outings are one day hunts, but here's a thought I had. What if, instead of building a box to put the coyotes in, instead build something to put your gear in or on. Maybe build a small platform to allow your gear to sit up off of the floor of the bed, coyotes get piled in like usual, and have some sort of partition between them and your gear. Partition could be a simple tarp that you lay all your gear on top of on the raised floor, curl it around the back side of the gear and pull it forward and bungee toward the front of the bed.

Just a thought. It's a good problem to have.

That was my first suggeston TR. Tim is more interested in keeping the spooge out of his truck than off the gear though. I'm the opposite. Figure a box might make both of us happy

What if you had a riser of some sort fabbed up so the platform was at or near bed height but still attached to the hitch receiver? Probably have to have some angled pieces for support on the sides or tie it into the bed somehow so it doesn't wobble back and forth but I bet it wouldnb't be hard to make it work pretty well.

Something like this but higher and perhaps a bit shorter:
