I haven't hunted since last Mon night because we had family visiting. My son and daughter-in-law brought my new granddaughter home to us all the way from Belgium and I was not about to leave them.
They left yesterday so my buddy and I decided to try a stand or 2 tonight before the moon came up.
1st stand we set up in a pasture that we hunted early last week and heard coyotes way off but they would not come in.
Tonight I howled and they cut me off, they were closer but still across a creek. Honestly I did not expect them to come in.
I howled 3-4 more times and they continued to answer. The last time I howled they did not respond. I stayed quiet for a couple of minutes then selected DSG Cottontail. Within 4-5 minutes I saw a coyote come up over the knoll, then my buddy saw a 2nd one. They came in committed but angling to our down wind. I bark stopped them at 100+- yds, counted down, and we killed them both DRT. The female weighed 29lbs, the male looked bigger but weighed 28. Next stand the moon was coming up. Nothing showed and we quit for the night.
