Wanted to share my bow hunting experience from yesterday.
Went out after some freezer meat on one of my favorite spots. I had actually missed a 25 yard shot on a deer! It started to heat up so I thought I would hunt my way back along a ridge that overlooks a very productive valley. I came up to the top and was looking down on a pond and saw something in the tall grass along the pond edge. I looked through my binocs and saw that it was a coyote. I could tell he was eating on something, but could not tell what it was. I watched for a second then I saw him pull on one of the legs, I realized it was a fawn deer that he had killed!
I decide to try to put the stalk on him. I had to cover a open hill side to get to him. I had some trees and brush at the pond edge on my side to put between me and the 'yote. I stalked to within 10 yards of him and could hear the bones crunching. I tried to get myself around the brush to get a shot and wouldn't you know it He spotted me! He crossed at the back of the pond and came over on my side , I tried to get low and draw but he got nervous and ran. I tried to stop him but he didn't want to hang around. I thought that he might circle downwind to find out what that wierd blob in the weeds was. So I got back up on the ridge and watched. In abot ten minutes he came in exactly downwind of the bushes I had been hiding in. He was prety nervous but not alarmed. The landowner had his tractor stuck in the mud where the creek ran into the pond. Just as I was really getting into this coyotes behaviour, I heard a truck coming, sure enough he did too and sceedaddled! It was the farmer coming to get his tractor out. I know I didn't get a shot or any exciting tale to tell you, I thought that this observation may come in handy someday though. Thanks for listening. - Okeytrapper.
