Coyote howler diaphragms

Ive been looking to try out one of the MFK diaphragm calls and was wondering how hard they are to use? And also which should i get the pup, adult , or old dog howler?

I got the pup one. It produces great sounds, I just haven't used it enough in the field. Its comparable to using a diaphragm turkey call, if you have ever done that.

I got my first one a couple weeks ago, the 3 reed howler. I use diaphragms for turkey's and this one works the same way. It's not really hard but does take practice.

After practicing on and off for a few weeks I still get a break in the tone sometimes at the end of a long howl. Even with that, it sounds really lifelike.

This week I ordered 2 more of their calls. I'll try them and see if the break in the tone is me or the call.

Exactly! It isn't hard but it takes PRACTICE! But once you get it....there isn't a more realistic better sounding call made

I have a few diaphragms and the easiet one out of the package for me was from Rocky Mtn. Game Calls . It is the only diaphragm I have gotten a response from .

E.L.K. Power Howler and Coyote Howler sound pretty good too.

Yeah the easiest to use is the the pup howler. I have all 3 howlers and as you go up the trickier they are to use. Like HIN said with the 3 and 4 reed call its easier to break in tone during the howl but with practice they become easier to use and more controllable.

Same here, I got the same caller and had 1 lone adult yote show up within 5 minutes after calling. Originally I set-up my pop-up blind on a logging rd and waited 20-30 minutes to settle in before I started with the highest pitched sound I could make with a erry whine at the end and the yote shot out of some broom sage and I nailed it with some #4 buck. Unfortunately he/she didn't fall dead but the load turned it around sorta like a hard slap. Think I didn't hit it that good but it sure was hit! I think that I shot too fast and shot low, oh well I hope it did not die too painfully. Better luck next time I hope!Originally Posted By: centerfire_223I just got my MFK pup howler in the mail this week, it sounds awesome!! I will definately be ordering some more of these.

I got the starter pack from MFK and really liked the pup howler. I picked it up pretty quick. Then I decided to order the 2 reed competition howler and love it. I had little experience with diaphragms but learned these pretty quickly. I've killed with them and had many more answer back. Awesome calls!

Are any of you guys able to tell me the trick to using a diaphragm call without gagging on it?
Does it need to be trimmed or what?
I really like the sounds the guys on the MFK videos can make.
I can make an open reed call talk but those diaphragms sound good too.

I always trim and bend them to fit but don't trim to much. That should help with the gagging but best is watch the vids and or call, sure they will help. I've been using turkey diaphragms for 20 some years. So haven't had that prob in a long time. You might want to buy a few cheap turkey calls to trim to get the right fit.

I've been using MFK calls since they were TC Custom Calls. All it took to convince me that these things work was to compete in a few hunting contests against Jason here in Southwest Va. It's much easier to produce realistic sounds on the pup howler than any other howling diaphragm I've tried. The distress diaphragms are just as good as their howlers also.

I just received my first diaphragm (MFK pup) a few days ago. I haven't given up yet but I can't it sound anything like the guys in the videos.
