Coyote hunting around Buffalo, WY

I bought a truck from a fella in Buffalo, Wy a year ago and the he told me any time I wanted to come back and hunt to let him know. We have kept in contact sharing kill stories and such, and he said he thought they're we're gov hunters around the Sheridan/buffalo area, however he doesn't target coyotes so he isn't positive. What I'm trying to get to is, is there anyone from around the area or who has targeted coyotes with much success?
Hopefully one day I'll be able to go harvest some bigger game out that way, but until then I might make a trip back this fall and try my luck.

Thanks

Dhurt,

DoubleCK lives up near Sheridan. I met him this past fall in Buffalo and had a great dinner with he and his wife and some other good people. You might contact him and get some pointers or ideas, and maybe some information about whether government hunters are hunting much in that area.

I've hunted that area for pronghorns a few years back, not a ton of public ground in that part of the state but almost certainly some coyotes. Especially to the east.

Yes sir that country has Goverment trappers that trap coyotes all year around.

I hunted deer near buffalo back in November. That area is mainly private land unless you head up towards the bighorn mountains. Anything in the flats is going to be private but permission to hunt coyotes in many area would be doable I think. I asked the rancher who's property we hunted if there were many coyotes in the area around Buffalo and he said that there were not--the occasional dog but not very many. We did not see any dogs and did not hear any in the three days we hunted. Hope this helps

I grew up in that country and can honestly tell you that the coyote pop. is kept pretty thin, there are places around there that are good, the bighorns have there fair share.

I appreciate the info guys. I thought it would be a start since I knew someone from the area that could show me some spots. Regardless of the dogs I'd still like to hunt the area, for bigger game anyway.

Hey dhurt. Sheridan and Johnson County do have a well funded, very proficient predator control programs. These guys are good. And, yes we do have a high ratio of private land vs. public land here. Some of us locals often make trips to other areas of Wyoming and Montana to find more land access and more coyotes.

Great country here though!

DoubleCK, I appreciate the heads up! I must say that I love your part of the country! I don't wanna impose but where would be a decent part of Wyoming to find public hunting? If you don't want to divulge that info I would completely understand.

Dhurt. Check out thunder basin national grasslands and the red desert in wyo. Get a map of both areas and get familiar with the boundaries of public and private land.summertime prarie dog is great also lots of public hunting and dont forget you own it so enjoy!!!!
