Hi all,
A few weeks ago I had the chance to hunt coyotes in north Alabama. Using a simple Night and Hale cottontail distress call for just a few minutes, we had a coyote running right toward us in the middle of the pasture. Loved the adrenaline rush and I'm pretty sure I'm hooked. I live between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham and I'm currently trying to find places to hunt that are a little closer to home. There are three different wildlife management areas (Cahaba, Mulberry Fork, Oakmulgee) with an hour drive, but their coyote seasons are limited and ammunition types are restricted. The Talladega National Forest (outside Oakmulgee) is year-round and typical ammunition, but still a pretty good drive. Obviously, private land would be best, but not quite ready to start knocking on random doors just yet. I'm curious if any members here are in the same area and have faced the same challenges? Can anyone recommend some ways to get my foot in the door with respect to hunting private land? Can't really market myself as a predator removal pro to farmers given I have very little experience under my belt. I have a couple leads simply from word of mouth, but the more options, the better.
Thanks and ROLL TIDE!
