Coyote Hunting - Central/West Alabama

Hi all,

A few weeks ago I had the chance to hunt coyotes in north Alabama. Using a simple Night and Hale cottontail distress call for just a few minutes, we had a coyote running right toward us in the middle of the pasture. Loved the adrenaline rush and I'm pretty sure I'm hooked. I live between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham and I'm currently trying to find places to hunt that are a little closer to home. There are three different wildlife management areas (Cahaba, Mulberry Fork, Oakmulgee) with an hour drive, but their coyote seasons are limited and ammunition types are restricted. The Talladega National Forest (outside Oakmulgee) is year-round and typical ammunition, but still a pretty good drive. Obviously, private land would be best, but not quite ready to start knocking on random doors just yet. I'm curious if any members here are in the same area and have faced the same challenges? Can anyone recommend some ways to get my foot in the door with respect to hunting private land? Can't really market myself as a predator removal pro to farmers given I have very little experience under my belt. I have a couple leads simply from word of mouth, but the more options, the better.

Thanks and ROLL TIDE!

Joe

Welcome to PM but the Roll Tide stuff isn't gonna get you any slack. LOL! Im jk! There's a wealth of knowledge on here and as you get time in the field ypu will feel more comfortable knocking on doors. My wife would go with me and she couldn't believe I would go up and knock on doors like I do. The majority of people will not tell someone no to shooting coyotes. They want them gone. You would be surprised how many places you can hunt by doing that.

Thanks for the suggestions! I figure the off-season is about as safe of a time as any to let out a Roll Tide on here! Now, if I knock on a farmer's door down here and say Roll Tide instead of Hi, I'd either get invited in for dinner or shot at, any and every day of the year.

Hey guys I'm anew to predator masters and have been hunting coyotes for about 3 years now, just looking for local coyote hunters/new areas to hunt.Own a 450 acre ranch with about 150 head of cattle, seems like pressure is preety high during and just after hunting season. I've put down 8 coyotes in 2 years while only being out here for a couple months.
