Coyote hunting in Michigan is useless!!!!

I think John Kasik has shot all the coyotes in MI, he is going to have to share his secrets with us. As far as texas i would love to make it down there some day and hunt coyotes, i would even let one of you texans come up here and sit in my tree stand, or shoot all the darn turkeys you want..

The coyote hunting in the UP of MI is pretty tough at times too. In many of the areas where I hunt, the wolves have also taken up residence with the coyotes. It makes the coyotes much less responsive to calling. They don't play well together either. Further, the coyotes actually leave some areas to follow the deer to the yarding areas. I notice this in the area of the camp. You have to scout areas more closely and drive a lot more to get to the better areas. They can be called in though.

Skinner2, I sent you an email, but it bounced for some reason.

Hi VMax, I feel your pain! I went to a predator seminar at Jay's 2 years ago. The guest speaker was Bob Bartz. He has hunted all over the country and said that Michigan was the hardest place to call-in a coyote. The biggest challenge is people pressure. I've nailed a few coyotes here in Michigan. You'll have better luck at night. Try using something other than your typical rabbit-in-distress call. Talk to farmers. Find out if they here or see yotes. Ask them where and when they see them. If you know where they cross the farmer's field set-up accordingly. You might be better off not calling at all. That may put them on alert. I did speak with Blair Bailor at Jay's in Claire and said to scout during the spring for set-ups. The most important thing I could remember from our conversation was how coyotes will always try to sneak-in down-wind using some sort of cover. It could be a fence line or high weeds. The trick is to nail them before they get into the cover or shoot them at an opening within the cover all before he winds you. Good luck!
