Depends. I think in most circles, it doesn't make any difference, at all.
But in some circles, it does.
My personal vernacular, unless the context has already made it abundantly clear, I say "dog coyote", not just "dog".
Hunting with Cal Taylor last year, using his dogs, I was glad we both used the same language. When you have dogs, and coyotes of both sexes. all in front of you at the same time, and it actually matters whether you shoot the dog or the beotch coyote first, speaking the same language definitely helps.
