Coyote hunting - what distance is your typical shot?

It seems to me that a scope with optical magnification is a limitation trying to hit moving coyotes at close range in the brush. Since most shots are less than 100 yards, the red dot is preferable. It is much easier to hit a moving target close up.

Not for me...

Scope here also but I dropped down to a 2x7. It suits my needs well but in the future will probably do with a 3x9 to help in rest shooting when load developing.

And yes there is always ice involved from here on out in the year. A cargo pocket and a zip lock bag with a little ice fits the bill nicely.

A scope in the range of 1.5X6 is perfect, a 3X9 is ok too. A stool is imperative for [beeep] or legs falling asleep. I almost never sit on ground any longer. Most called coyotes, and thats anywhere, can be called in to 50 yards or less. If you hear a runner from behind, no need to turn or look, just let it pass on by on its way to the call, it will never see you make the move to mount rifle. Its all pretty easy really, the hard part is knowing where coyotes are, and getting within ear shot fo them.

50 yards or less.
3-9 kept on 3-4 most of the time
FoxPro carry case make a nice cooler
I love the feeling when my leg goes to sleep and it feels like I'm carrying dead meat below the knee.
