Coyote hunting with hounds

I just ran across this on another forum. Didn't even know guys did this. How popular is it? I know no one around here(Montana) that does it and have absoutely no intrest in ever doing it,,looks brutal. Bear in mind I have hunted all my life and am not a virgin when it comes to killing things but man that is something I don't think I would want to try.

Look at the houndsman forum youll find more information about it. Some guys here in ohio do it and had killed almost 90 coyotes when i talked to them in december.

Thanks, I have never been on the Hounds forum, I guess I assumed it was all about hound hunting for cats and coons, And here I thought I knew it all. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif I feel like a bone head, didn't even know guys did this! I take it the hounds kill the coyote?

Some allow the hounds the kill. Others shoot the coyotes infront of the hounds. And then there are the decoy dogs that lure coyotes to with in rifle range to be shot.

I have seen the post from Mike with the decoy dog, but the whole hound chasin the coyote thing I did not realize,,,man I have lived a sheltered life

look at vargy's posts
go back a couple of pages and you can see all of his hunts

I have been going back looking at the pics, and reading the stories, not quite sure how I feel about this. Don't think it is for me but the guys doing it must enjoy it.

With the wolves we have now I am not sure how that would work out, I know lion dogs don't fair to well with a wolf

Vargy,

What you didn't see was another road a mile away. Unlike the central states, most of the West isn't sectioned off with roads. You could turn the hounds out here and maybe not find another country road for 5 or 6 miles, or more. That may be why I've never seen hound hunters here.

mike what i was looking at was the open country with rolling hills!! if a guy had permission to drive on the stags could really rock and roll!!
Out of all the stats that we drove in i seen the most yotes in Mont!!!

Where I live in the desert ther aren't many roads, but i can drive any where in the desert.I think I may be looking for stags in the near future.
