Coyote mating howls?

How do you guys use this sound? Do you use it by itself or use it with different howls like submissive howls?

When do you use it?

I've asked this question before with hardly any answers. the best answer I've seen while researching is buy a calling video and use trial and error. Sucks I know, I havnt called in one all year on a regular distress call. The only thing I can get them to come into is pup distress, and thats spotty at that.

During the breeding season, I start off with Female Invitational, followed a minute or two later with Female submissive, wait a few and then go to Female whimpers, Estrous chirps, and maybe Female Coyote Sore Howls. Call sparingly, watch a lot.

Just found this, and it may be well known on the forums, but there are some videos primos did with randy anderson on youtube where he explains some various howls. From what I've heard randy is one of the greats when it comes to howling. I found it to be very informational, hopefully it'll help you.

Can you share some stats on how well your system works??

Not really since I don't keep those kinds of records. Overall, I don't think the percentage of successful stands changes much during the breeding season as compared to the rest of the year. I have been fortunate to kill my share during the breeding season following this pattern of calling. One thing that could enter that is I use the Yote Coyote decoy a lot this time of year. I just don't believe that coyotes are driven by a search for food as much during the breeding cycle.

I usually start with a traditional lonesome howl and wait a couple minutes. If no response go to an immature coyote response. Often this brings a reply as if the first one woke them up and only paid attention to the second.
Depending on any response, I will either mimic them or bring a weak challenge.
Usually what comes in wants to kick butt, or they come in late having traveled a distance.
Some encounters can get close, loud, and almost intimidating.
