Coyote optic for AR

Whatever you do, don't buy based on price. You really get what you pay for when it comes to optics. Check reviews if you are buying online.

I use the Rock River mount on my Rock Rivers. Scope of choice for me is Leupold MarkAR 3-9x40 Mil-dot. The scopes dial in every time, and return to zero every time. I try to keep my shots to 300 yards or less, but have taken a few shots over 300(some hits, some misses) but I recommend this scope to anyone who hunts predators with a AR.

favorite cantilever mount by far for my is the Aero Precision Ultra light extended...its high quality and incredibly light

I agree.. Primary Arms has them for $80 i think. They have 3 lugs that engage the Picatinny rail and they lock up good.
I got a Vortex off midway awhile back that was blemished for cheaper but it works great too.

X 2 the Aero Precision mount is 1/3 the weight of the Burris.

I used the weaver ar mount on my rifle and mounted a vx3 3.5x10. The mount is solid, and has proven durable. Best of all I got from midway for 59 bucks. Jason from PTG would not like the way my rifle looks after less than 6 months. The rifle has some scars but the mount has held. Material is more important than the brand when picking bases and rings and I have never had a problem with a weaver product.

High powered optics for a 300 yard coyote rifle with ballistic reticles and mediocre glass...I guess some advice goes unnoticed.

I would hardly call 14 to 16 power high powered. Heck I've seen guys run 24 to 32 power scopes on an AR. Besides the quality of the glass that he's looking at is more than acceptable for the 300 yard an in range he's specified he's planning on using it for. It would be quite different if he had a long range AR set up for 500-600 yards.

But I do agree the scope you suggested would be a darn nice scope for his intentions and I see there is a pretty good deal out there on these if you look around, like here......... eurooptic - Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 3-9X40

Stoner....I sent you a PM about another option you might consider. It's what I'm running on my 16" AR and it works great.

Good luck on your decision.

I've taken into consideration each option presented and I appreciate the time taken to respond and help me out. I mentioned 300 yds as a average shot, however 600+ is not out of the question. Thanks again for the input.
Thanks for the PM IAyoteHNTR, I'll take it into consideration.

Both long-range shots I've attempted on coyotes this season were 1st shot kills, one at 490 and the other at 350 in low wind conditions. Both were quick shots, lasered, referenced reticle hold on a sticker on my Butler Creek scope cap cover, in the 3-9X Burris, reacquire and shoot. 69 TMK did the trick, and once the trajectory is matched to the reticle it's as quickly referenced as just about any other system out there--IMO important for such a mobile target like predators, especially when hunting by myself with no spotter. Had one connection beyond 700 which I should never have tried. Hit but wounded only and the dog got away. 223 is good to about 600ish on coyotes and that's about it...IMO.

For coyote hunting, I have heard Leupold VX-2 series are brought up a lot. I think 3-9x or 3-5-10x will work fine for you. They should be around $300 if I remember correctly.
