Coyote prices in midwest?

I was told this afternoon that coyote prices have dropped. Pretty bummed since I took in my best one of the year expecting around $50 and had to beg and cry to get 35. It was a better coyote than one a week ago that brought 40. I'm thinking of putting them up next year and sending them to auction next year.

I sold to Groenwold Fur and Wool.

I believe the main office is out of IL, but they run fur routes through many states. Their route schedule and times are posted on their website. I was chatting with a guy from MN while waiting in line tonight.
This was his last stop here for the season. We normally sold once a week in years past, but this year, he only scheduled 4 stops for this year. Indicating they are buying a lot less fur.

Mantor...I see your question now. Anyway, the website is there for anyone wanting to check schedules.

Gave me 3 coyote back...rubbed in the neck area.Thought maybe at least 5 bucks, but I guess prices are bad enough, they don't even want to screw with even the slightly sub-par stuff.
2 coon @ $6
6 coon @ $3
Just info for anyone still wondering.

We had a bad tic problem 2 years ago and over half our coyotes had thin neck hair from scratching. If it looks thin, don't bother skinning.

They are coming to Michigan early Feb and again mid April.

I should go see them and see what our coyotes and fox are bringing. If it's too low I'll just tan them and sell them to the summer tourists.

Got 5 coyote and 6 fox hides in the freezer I need to get ready. Hmmmm......

You definitely should be thinking of putting up your own next year. I haven't heard anything about coyotes going down in price this year. They are going down in quality this time of year of course which will mean buyers will discount heavily for damage.

Doesnt surprise me. They have a monopoly here. The Illinois buyer comes within an hour of here on his route but that's still a long drive for one coyote on a work day. But I can tell you that east of here through the sandhills they have bought a lot of coyotes that would have normally gone to petska's.

That's the word going around the last couple of years.

Could call Hemsath in Rowley. Or Drewelow in Fredricksburg. Or Hoffman in Aurora.

Baitpile, not good prices on those coon ??? After spending the day fleshing... I was hoping for a late season price hike.

Brad, We'll probably do Fredericksburg from here on out this year as Groenwold is done running here. Groenwolds has always treated us well here in years past...very fair.Fur prices just took a dump.

Just was at a fur sale for USRT, we saw huge fluctuations in price. I sold my coyotes for $50 a head, another lot I was selling for another shooter went for $70. Family had 3 different lots of coyotes that ranged anywhere from $40-70. Across the board at the sale we saw prices of $30 to $100. There was no rhyme or reason to prices. Bobcats took a big dive, probably 60% of what they were speculated at.

To you there may be no rhyme or reason but to a buyer he knows.
This why most fur harvesters don't have a clue what their fur is worth.
Trouble with trapper lot sales is, all your coyotes in a pile and the buyer has to assess an average on the lot. Your "$50" a head pile probably contained $15-$80 coyotes were as the "$70" pile had $40-$100 pelts.

$15-$40 dollar Idaho coyotes were probably on the flatter/early type along with the slights, and darker colors
$50-$60 coyotes will be fuller, paler and softer with very few imperfections.
$70-$100 pelts are heavy, pale, silky, well handled with no imperfections.
I'm headed out for the Colorado sale this week, 4000 coyotes on the racks from all over the country. We will see $1 coyotes up to $120+
and every thing in between.
Harvesters that know fur and start skinning only the best and know which ones have little or no value will always do better.

Some places just have poorer fur, coyotes can change price by 30% county to county.

Gotspots, is right on. I worked for a furbuyer for awhile, and can tell you grading fur has lots of variables.

When I say worked for, I mean on the manual labor end.... Lots and lots of exercise.

Oh, I believe Groney provides a service for sure. And the better relationship you have with a buyer the better off you are.

I worked for Rick for awhile and either ship to FHA through him or sell to him.

We sold over 25 the Wednesday after Christmas and got $80 for most on the carcass, got docked for cocklbures down to $30-$40. Just sold close to 30 more last Monday the 22nd. And still got the same prices. We have only done one ice fishing trip, coyotes are worth far more than fish. Our buyer said he will take everything we can provide, only about 5 we’re trapped, the rest shot.

That's freaking awesome.

MN coyotes?

Who was the buyer?

I'd never skin another for that kind of scratch.

No, ND coyotes, we have been having a lot more success on the ND side of the Red River. We rarely hunt the Minnesota side the last 2 years since we (4) of us have been having such success. Our buyer comes to us every 3 weeks. I don’t even know his name since I have had to work the days he comes through. My son and the other guys have the flexibility to meet him on his short notice, All I know he has a large enclosed trailer and makes his rounds in North Dakota. As of today Monday we have taken over 60 yotes, I’m on the low end for yotes shot in the group, and my son has the most shot.

I am not sure what to say. If you were to send Marty Pictures with your phone, where they were taken. And be honest he would bid on them. If you are lying, he won't pay what he offered because you were dishonest. I didn't say you were sending them to him. He travels all over. And is honest. He's out to make money. But if you were to call him a liar or cheat, that would give him a bad name. Along with the Petska, fur company. They can't afford that. I may be able to sell them for more. However I won't. Petska is too convenient and he will pick them up right at the house. He is extremely humble and fair.

I’m with Marty on this one. I’d never skin another coyote if I was getting $80 on the carcass.
