To you there may be no rhyme or reason but to a buyer he knows.
This why most fur harvesters don't have a clue what their fur is worth.
Trouble with trapper lot sales is, all your coyotes in a pile and the buyer has to assess an average on the lot. Your "$50" a head pile probably contained $15-$80 coyotes were as the "$70" pile had $40-$100 pelts.
$15-$40 dollar Idaho coyotes were probably on the flatter/early type along with the slights, and darker colors
$50-$60 coyotes will be fuller, paler and softer with very few imperfections.
$70-$100 pelts are heavy, pale, silky, well handled with no imperfections.
I'm headed out for the Colorado sale this week, 4000 coyotes on the racks from all over the country. We will see $1 coyotes up to $120+
and every thing in between.
Harvesters that know fur and start skinning only the best and know which ones have little or no value will always do better.
Some places just have poorer fur, coyotes can change price by 30% county to county.
