/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif Last night on out Channel 5 in Nashville there was a video interview of an older person who had an encounter with a coyote. The person said that while he was mowing his yard on his lawn tractor, a coyote came out of the brush and cirled his tractor several times. The fellow kicked at the coyote as it stared at the man. The man threw his cap at the coyote and the beast just stood it's ground. Finally the fellow said that he got his tractor into 5th gear and headed to the house.

The segment stated that the TWRA didn't have a solution and that WE would have to live with the coyotes. Fortunely those of us that can hunt in the country have the solution up against our shoulder. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I wish that would happen to me.... I could give the puppy a real education,, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I go out looking for them and this guy draws them in with a lawn tractor... Maybe I need to change my tactics...and approach.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

Our Department of Conservation restrict use of vehicles when hunting,,, I wonder it they would complain about my mower?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Wonder if the coyote was searching for dead critters from the lawn mower?
I've had them follow behind a bush-hog & hay mower.

Either way, that would have been one dead coyote!

We had an incident here in Virginia a couple years back, down in New Kent County, where a coyote actually attacked a man while the guy was cutting his grass. The guy fended him off a couple times with the lawnmower while he worked his way towards the house. Eventually he went in and got a gun and came out and killed the coyote. The coyote turned out to be rabid. Made the evening news on all the channels.

Another good reason to keep your pistol handy.
I rarely keep mine on me while on the lawnmower but keep one with me on the tractor whenever I bush hog or while riding the 4 wheeler checking my property. Killed a lot of rowdy ground hogs that way.

PS, It's another story if you live in town.

They do it all the time to me and my dad,Cutting hay, planting seed ,bush hogging. They know there is a good chance that a turkey, rabbit or mouse will be dead or injured. We have had them in the spring follow as close as 10 feet to the disc mower waiting for a turkey to get shot out the back.I dont shoot them of the tractors though.I do when they come to the fox pro though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

But... TWRA and their So Called "Biologist" won't open a Predator Hunting season, Night hunting Etc. And the current regs greatly limit our ability to control the population. It will get so far out of hand soon they will have to Spend Our $ to Pay to get the population under control. So far we have a Basically healthy Mange and disease free population, as they move into urban areas, and grow in numbers... Disease is sure to follow.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gifWhat's the matter, you got something against shooting from a motorized vehicle or something? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gifL.O.L.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gifDon't look at my avatar, you'll call the law!

LOL pruson!I have shot and will shoot alot more from the tractor and 4-wheeler.I just hate for them to get shy of the vehicles,I like to see whats out there. One good thing from publicity like this is that alot of people that wouldnt let you hunt coyotes will after seeing it.

We see more coyotes while cutting hay than any other time. Just like buzzards they are look for the free meal. There are alot of mice killed while cutting hay.

i had this happen to me on my dozer last year.this coyote was acting like a house dog running around my dover.then i figured out what was going on.she run over to a plum thicket just to the right of me and grabed up a pup and headed for the creek.i got a little closer and there where three more pups.so i move to another spot and let her get them.she didnt like me getting that close.i have had doe's do the same thing.

I know several farmers here in the Shenandoah valley that CARRY rifles in their tractors every time they're out because of how often Coyotes will tail the tractors. One farmer claims to have shot 7 in one spring!
