Over my hunt years. Once snow cover hit. As I combed the county gravel roads coyote hunting. I've seen my fair share of coyotes tracks, crossing the roadways. The average joe coyote, would leave a paw print 2.5" long to 2.75" long give or take a smidge. Coyotes that left a 3" long paw print. Are typically in the 40lb class or higher.

As a side note; An adult Red Fox paw print. Is typically 2" long. All of their tracks I've seen & measured. Varied ever so slightly. Another observation of Red Fox prints is. They rarely leave claw marks. When they do leave claw marks. Only the very pointy tips of their claws. Will show on firm snow for example. Some hunters may confuse them as a Bobcat track.

The average Iowa coyote weighs about 28 lbs. The biggest one that I shot weighed in at 42 lbs. My Son and also shot a 16 lb and 15.5 lb Red Fox at the same location while pheasant hunting. I had the state record and did not even know it. I have pictures somewhere.

Your weight numbers are pretty accurate. For the coyotes & the reds. Heaviest red we weighed was 18-lbs(non official). Early 70's I killed a feed grain weighed 48 lb female coyote. She was a bruiser. I also killed a 50 lb male early 80's.
