coyote vs. fox call sounds?

I have found that using my e-call I have gotten fox and coyotes on a cottontail distress, as well as jack rabbit distress, and their hasnt been much to distinguish either setup. Obviously, howls and pups are for yotes only, so I am eliminating that, so is this is a distress only animal? , whether hand or e-call doesnt matter. Is there one that is better for fox and bobcat? This is kind of a broad question, but with the broad coyote sounds that are out there, i havent heard of different sounds for fox or bobcat other than a typical rabbit distress. I have used many types, but would like to know which has worked the best for you guys that have killed and called more than I have, which isnt that many compared to most. Thanks again!
 
I agree with wyo dog buster, I like high pitched, fast pace callin for fox. I can't speak for bob-cat cause we don't have any.

Wounded bird call, that makes a ton of sense, you know who makes one, or if one of the people on here could make me one? Might have to go over to that thread and ask.
 
I know you can down load them if you have a foxpro. Hand calls like your open reed type can make a wounded bird sound. I use a little yellow open reed call that's made for bob cats. I don't recall the name of the call but it's made by the vermanators in the Callling all Coyote DVD. I believe he's from KS. The tweeter or something along that line.
 
That would be "thumper" wyo..

Any hand call pretty much can make a bird sound, takes alot of air and twilling of the tongue. I use KeeKee's closed reed with a ball style mouth piece for my bird sounds. An sceery ap-6 also makes good bird sounds. You just have to hit the call hard and twill the tongue fast.

well, no foxpro yet, though my dad has one, might get him to work on that. Are the folks who make the thumper on here? And Canine, can I get with KeeKee or perhaps yourself for one, or is that something that might take a little more practice compared to say a call that a novice at the different types and abilities of handcalls like myself should be using?
 
Haydels Hawk Screamer HS-91. 1 call I use to make 3 sounds, Hawk of course, but also if you blow it firmly and twill the tongue it's a bird distress. Blow it softer while trying to say Chicago makes a quail call.

As far as grey fox are concerned nothing beats the grey fox pup distress in my area. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
 
I agree with the others. High pitched and erratic calling seems to appeal well to grey fox and bobcat. I had real good luck of pulling them into our laps this year with something like this:

This was done on an open reed call, working on the tip and quivering the lower jaw.

Sorry for reviving an old thread. I love to hunt Reds. The little yellow call that was mentioned is the tweety psycho, and it is a dandy as is the regular tweety, thumper is too loud. Fox like softer distress calls, too loud will scare them. I have not used a jack rabbit on them during the summer around here they eat grasshoppers, and mice. But I have heard a kitten or hen in distress is good, but never mastered the call. Of course wounded bird and cottontail. And during the right time of year I do use pup whimpers.
The last few I have got have come in on a cottontail, and lots of lip squeaks. I even got my last one after I had taken some hasty long shots at either her or another fox, 30 minutes later and about 75 yards from where I shot I had a fox about 50 yards from me. So they will come after a bunch of shooting. On the wounded bird call most open reed calls will work get a high pitch squeal going and then flutter your tounge, you will hear it, work your hands as you would with other calls. I bought a cheap Johnny Stewart tape to hear the sounds and then I practiced them.
 
As Utahsmike said lip squeaks work very well on fox and cats if they are close enough to hear it. Some of the e-caller lip squeak sounds work well and you can get more4 volume. Of course the old standby grey fox sound is the grey fox pup.
