Coyotes and camouflage

I think camo is good, but sitting still is better.

Red or orange seem shocking when used in hunting because we can identify colors. Basically animals that don't have color can't see in color.
I have photographed many camo patterns side by side in hunting settings. Then converted the pics to black and white or sepia. Sepia is supposed to be closer to coyote vision.
When observed in their vision red and even blaze orange make good camo in sagebrush.
So grandpa wasnt far off wearing that red and black wool coat.

Work cloths work okay. I called in and shot two coyotes during deer season this year wearing blaze orange/ hunter orange....whatever its called....stuff I hate wearing because orange sucks. Killed one while wearing orange last year. So I guess it just depends. Camo doesn't hurt but I don't really know how much it helps either. I agree with what has been said. Be still and don't let them get in your wind and you'll be fine.

How many pictures or old photos of perhaps your own family hunting in the 60's with a pair of khaki pants on , with that red and black big checked plaid jacket on.....all hunters used to wear it ..or something like it....red and black ?? Yep.
Modern camo only really fired up in the early 80's.......before that it was army fatigue camo, and guide camo pattern that is still around today.. before the 80's there also were lots of hunters....that took lots of trophy game......so I'd say its all about being still...

I don't think it is necessarily about color per say as it is the darkness of most patterns. Most people wear stuff that is simply too dark and they look like a black blob at a distance. I believe the right camo will let you get away with a little more movement. They will still see you but they may not associate the movement as a threat right away buying a little more time for a shot. Black guns are a big no no on my stands. Wrap it, paint it, or whatever, but otherwise blend it in. I hate black guns almost as much as baseball caps on a stand. Think about it. How far can you see a black cow compared to a brown one???

Admittedly I'm a bit of a camo snob for big game, but the cabelas outfitter pattern is probably the finest color ever made for hunting the western US in the fall/winter. And a good faded pair of carharts would be second in my book.

There are camo color/patterns i like, ASAT and the outfitter pattern like Cabelas. Being still in most important, but i feel a good camo pattern let you get away with a little movement like calling.
Dont waste your money on charcoal scent lock stuff.
Hunt the wind too!

...safety first!

I have hunted in blaze orange due to muzzleloader season being in and have killed coyotes. I typically wear camo bibs (because they are warm) and a black under armour hoodie or green jacket if it is colder. For snow I wear a tyvek suit because I am a cheap a$$ hah.

You can't call coyotes in red clothing, OR shorts LOL... Up here you've got to ghillie up and paint your face, I think our Coyotes are smarter than yours.

Doc25 and TT35. You guys are funny.

Not sure what a rectal exam is, but it sounds like a real PITA.
I had a buddy who became a proctologist. I asked how he liked looking up all these different "addresses" all day. He said the money was good but it gave him a crappy outlook on things.

I have a brother who thought he should buy a coyote fur hat, complete with the legs dangling down. It truly was a thing of beauty. We were at a gun show and he saw some coyote lure.....'Female in heat". He figured the combination of the hat and scent would be deadly for getting coyotes in close.
I mentioned that since we lie down to call, he might want to consider a full face shield as well, since the stud that comes in isn't gonna be looking for lunch, and he won't be dry humping your leg.

The 'coyote whisperer" in the picture is a friend of mine. He's the kind of guy who won't take your word for it when you tell him "yes ,the hot wire is on."

i believe in camo, it works! especially for us in open range. at the same time i have a friend that also wears camo but some of the new stuff he likes to call it "human camo." the reason why is because the yotes aint going to tell the difference, it appeals more to those with OCD and have to have the newest of all.

I trust camo. Like many others I've seen and shot coyotes while deer hunting in orange. I've had to stand, wave, and yell at bears that got too close to the deer stand. The real question is how many didn't I see?? We all call in more coyotes than we see, so every edge is important. I don't wear it for the hard chargers, I wear it for the holdouts.

Hi my name is Grant and im a camoholic. It just looks professional. Dang I should of kept the big cva sticker that came on the stock of the 270 then I would look as professional as those guys on the hunting shows. In all fairness when your a fat guy camo makes you look thinner to. Conceals the moobs.

This is my coyote hunting camo. Up here there is almost always snow so i seldom need to wear anything else.
The ghillie jacket and baggy pants help break up my outline a lot and i often can stalk coyotes to within shooting range as long as the snow is soft and i only move when the dog's head is down.
This getup cost me roughly $50 and just an hour or so of my personal time building the jacket.
