Coyotes and persimmons?

A couple of weeks ago I posted asking if coyotes eat persimmons. Here is why I asked...

Driving the gravel/shale roads of a local de-activated military base, I literally saw this same sight replayed about every 20-100 yards on a stretch of road about a half mile long. So... do you think it is coyote doings? The size of the scat looks similar to that of a medium sized domestic dog. The terrain around the area ranges from small fields(and firebreaks) with knee to waist high grass to thick tangles of underbrush, green brier and cedar to gentle slopes covered with large burr oaks and other hardwoods.
 
I can't help but laugh everytime I open a post and it's just a picture of POO!!!

Either Coyote or Fox, either way shoot em' when the season opens..

Yep... Persimmons but the coons usually clean out the crop before the coyotes even have a chance... Them little hands are a big advantage for gettin' to the sweet stuff... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Wendell, the persimmons are in full swing here. I think its probably close to the top of a young coyotes diet right now. I have a big tree in my back yard, and I have seen my dog several times this week eating the ones that have fallen.

I have an older lady close by here that make some sure nuff good jelly from persimmons.

GC, I have never been able to eat them before the first frost. A not yet ripe persimmon will pull your taste buds out. A ripe persimmon is a delicacy. It seems that they turn ripe just after the first frost around here. I have a tree in the yard and am waiting for them to ripen.
 
Of course you're right, it was an attempt at humor regarding the identity of the scat in the pic. A green persimmon can flat out put the pucker face to you!
 
Around here we don't have persimmons but we do have sour wild pears. The coyotes have been eating them wholesale the past few weeks. Now they have moved on to the corn fields.
 
If that is from a coon, that would be one big coon, or one with a sore....uh, you know... Seriously, if I found that scat on a 4-5" wide branch/log going over a creek bed, I would think nothing but coon. Since it was in the tire track of the road, I lean more towards coyote.
 
It is hard to tell with out a size reference. But given how close the scat is together have to go with the raccoon, but reserve the right to change my opinion. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
