coyotes and scent

As a former trapper, I have alot of confidence in scents for attracting predators. My queston is, how well do you think coyotes reconize the difference between specific scents? Do they know the difference between say a rabit scent and a duck scent. Do they picture a rabbit in their mind when they smell it or is it just a simple possible food, possible danger type response.
Reason I asked, I have some duck training scent and was thinking about putting it on my decoy as an added interest grabber. I was also feeling like the coyote wouldn't know the difference and would just think it smelled like dinner and would investigate. What's your thoughts?

The coyote may be able to tell the difference between scents, but I don't think he would care. Main thing is to keep him from getting your scent. If you give him enough time to analyze it, he'll probably be gone. Best to take the shot before he gets a good whiff of the decoy. I'm sure a coyote can pick up your scent from placing the decoy along with the duck scent.

Kind of on the same subject...I've wondered about the smell or gun oil or burnt powder, even I can smell the sweet scent of some outers gun oil, even make wifey dab a little on her neck when we go out.

If using a decoy try to shoot the coyote BEFORE he gets to the decoy. It all goes south after he gets to the decoy.
