This weekend here in Central Florida, I saw a full grown coyote chasing a very small and young doe deer. I didn't have a gun but grabbed the biggest stick I could find and was determined to break up his dinner plans. I ran full speed at him and he finally stopped at about 10' from me, turned, and ran off.
There is no telling how many deer and fawns are killed every year by these very smart and wary predators. We too see very few fawns with does every spring now. We used to see one or two fawns with every doe but apparently those days are gone.
I have tried calling with a Circe type call and have had zero luck.
