Coyotes with White tipped tails

I wonder what percentage of the population has this characteristic?

I developed some pictures from my game carera today, and got this coyote with a white tail tip. A squirrel had been chewing on the nylon strap that hold it to the tree, and it knocked the camera around causing the tree to be in the way.

I still thought it was a good picture.

That's interesting. I wonder what causes that. First thought would be that there is red fox genes in it somewhere, but then knowing how coyotes will kill every fox they can makes me rethink that. Interesting none the less.

Interesting, but are you sure the white spot is not an artifact of the photo. There are some other white spots that seem to be reflections from branches and leaves. I'm goint ot look at it closer.PC

The tip starts black. The white part seems a little round. Hard to say. Is it looking at the camera or straight ahead? I am always amazed at the variation in coyote colors I see on this forum. Cool picture.PC

The white tipped coyote is the second coyote I have gotten pictures of at this location. This was the first, and how the camera was supposed to be sitting.

But, after the squirrel knawed the straps and kicked it sideways, it took the top pic with the bush in the way. I also got 2 pictures of what I assume was the bandit squirrel, several deer, a couple of hogs, and an armadillo.

I also saw a coyote about 75 yards from where the camera is last Saturday while looking for a scape to move another camera to. I will definately be calling this spot after deer season.

I shot this male a few weeks ago. Nice white tip. I wonder if it is gender and or age caused. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif
